Prayer for 2026

God of new beginnings,
as we step into this year,
steady our feet and soften our hearts.
Where the path ahead feels bright, help us walk with gratitude.
Where it feels uncertain, walk closely beside us.

Bless the plans we make,
the people we will meet,
the work we will offer,
and the rest we will need.
Teach us to notice the small mercies,
to celebrate the quiet victories,
and to hold one another with kindness.

When the world feels heavy,
give us courage that is gentle and hope that is stubborn.
When joy arrives,
let it take root and grow.

May this year be shaped by compassion,
coloured with peace,
and threaded through with Your love —
for us, for our communities,
and for all who long for comfort and belonging.

Amen.

Today some of us from the Heart of Newport were fortunate to be invited to attend the enthronement of Archbishop Cherry. A moment of joy!

We give thanks for the calling and consecration of Archbishop Cherry Vann,
The first woman to lead the Church in Wales,
A shepherd chosen in courage, wisdom, and faith.

Bless her ministry with clarity and compassion.
May she speak truth with gentleness,
Lead with humility and strength,
And hold fast to the hope of unity in Your Church.

In times of challenge, grant her resilience.
In moments of joy, deepen her gratitude.
In seasons of change, anchor her in Your Word.

Let her be a sign of reconciliation,
A voice for the overlooked,
And a guide for those seeking Your presence in a divided world.

Bless those she calls family,
The diocese of Monmouth and the whole province of Wales.
May her leadership reflect Your justice, mercy, and peace.

Through Christ our Lord,
Who calls each of us to serve in love.

May 2025 bring blessings in abundance!

It’s been an emotional day saying goodbye to Newport North West Ministry Area… during my time we have journeyed through hard times with the transition to becoming a Ministry Area (not once but twice), finances and the pandemic. But we’ve also had a lot of fun, wonderful services - Pentecost celebrations, advent Sunday, Christmas services, Taize services, Holy Week and more. We have done some amazing things - nine days of mission and prayer, prayer breakfasts, Christmas presents mission, charity work, vicarage BBQs and more. Even Tumnus has had a starring role with his re-enactment of the persistent widow during my talk to the mothers union about the persistent widow and of course mortified me during a funeral visit when he jumped through the open window in the dining room with a dead bird in mouth.

I’ve had the huge privilege of serving, knowing and loving some brilliant people.

I’m truly humbled by the words said and written… I will miss all of you.

Today I’m sad at what I leave behind… but I know they will go from strength to strength with so many faith filled people working to bring his Kingdom in this small corner…
