I was asked to accompany someone to the Isle of Wight Music Services storeroom to select a good, serviceable Alto Sax for a beginner to loan to learn on. Here is an example of an instrument that was otherwise in an OK condition that had been rendered unplayable with a bent octave pin caused by simple lack of being stored correctly. Please, all Sax players always use a Neck stopper. If it is missing, either invest in the £3 to buy a new one (I usually have a few in stock) or fashion yourself one out of a wine bottle cork. Otherwise, sooner or later this will happen.
