In the midst of turbulence, may we all find a place of stillness, clarity and peace. This place of stillness, this state of mind, lies within all of us. Our compassion and wisdom, our Inner Wealth, is unaffected by even the most extreme external conditions. No rain can dampen our inner peace. No wind can move our minds.

What is a life if not for love? Karmapa told us today that a long life without the sole purpose of benefitting others isn’t better, its just longer. We must truly use our time and our abilities in the service of humanity, and to spread the original teachings of the Buddha. To uphold the compassionate nature of our own hearts, and to use kindness and warmth to warm our world. Each moment is so precious, and if we can nurture the great gift that is each of these moments, then we automatically have a rich and full life. We don't need to wish for more life so that we can gain more, or have more, or experience more. We don’t need more time for those things. Long life can be wished for, even dreamt of, but it is empty without the solemn vow of benefitting others. Let us use our time on this earth wisely, and appropriately. Let us never waste a single moment, because these moments have tremendous power. If we can utilize our time here on this earth, focusing on the spreading and expounding of love, then we have truly created a life worth living.
This is a life that I would be proud to call my own.

Thaye Dorje, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, shares the following message on the occasion of India's 76th Independence Day.

New Delhi, 15 August 2022

On the auspicious occasion of the 76th Independence Day, I would like to offer my prayers and appreciation to the nation of India, and all of her 1.3 billion children.

My deep gratitude goes to this great and noble land that has given birth to immeasurable wisdom, including the countless precious forms of spirituality that originated from here and that are the focus of this celebration.

Many of my fellow Buddhists are always humbled by the fact that Buddhist practice too originated from this very land. It is here that, more than 2,500 years ago, the historical Buddha of our time reached enlightenment at the sacred place of Bodhgaya, and then spent the remaining years of his long life sharing with others the wisdom he had found.

By now, this practice has taken root in various corners of this globe, in the form of Theravada, Mahayana, Zen and Tibetan Buddhism.

We, the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, feel a deep sense of appreciation towards this great nation, as generations of practitioners have benefited immensely from this spirituality for more than 900 years. To this very day, the nation of India continues to offer us the timeless freedom and hospitality to continue our practice. On behalf of the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism I offer my sincerest gratitude.

I would like to ask my dear Dharma friends to pray with me for the longevity of the kind and noble nation of India. Let us celebrate her limitless wisdom and understanding.
With prayers,

Thaye Dorje, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa

We are beyond grateful for the teachings and empowerments Nedo Kuchung Rinpoche gave us over the last couple of days at the International Summer Course. Thousands of friends from around the world came to the Europe Center to receive these timeless teachings. We are incredibly thankful to have Lama Ole Nydahl and Nedo Rinpoche with us again this year.

Doing a little bit of practice every day is something that is maintainable, feasible. So this is what I would like to request from you and in this way our connection, our bond is kept.

This is my main responsibility. I will make wishes and aspirations for all of us to keep our connections. This is what I will do for my part and if from your side you can do what I have just asked you to do then in this way our intention and mindset are the same and no matter the distance and time, they will not separate us.

Suffering is an illusion. You feel compassion for the beings who suffer, but there is no reason for you to become emotional yourself. Because suffering does not exist, it can be removed. Even your emotions do not really exist. You may not be able to actually experience other people’s emotions, but you can certainly experience your own. Your emotions need no introduction as you already know them. In fact, you can examine them in a thorough way. When you experience an emotion, find out how it exists. You can research it by your mind because it is fresh and within you and you experience it. See whether the emotion is in your skin, in your bones or in your blood. In which part of your body is it located? When you look, you will not find the emotion anywhere. By the time you decide to have a good look at it, the emotion is already lost. So where did it go? Is it hiding somewhere in one corner of your body? Where is the emotion? When you examine both negative and positive emotions in this way, you will not find them as having any real existence.
