The 71st Annual Meeting of the Synod of German Speaking Congregations in Great Britain has come to its end.
We had a wonderful time at High Leigh Conference Centre in Hertfordshire.
'Church in fragile times' was this year's main topic.
Dr Peter Böhlemann gave us an inspiring key note speech. We had the pleasure to have Bishop Mike Royal, General Secretary of Churches Together in England and Susanne Frahne, from the German Embassy, London with us. Anna Krauss (Council of Lutheran Churches in Great Britain) greeted us via video message (gratefully received) and Matthias Ristau from the Deutsche Seemannsmission e.V. with an address (We hope to have you next year again!).
OKR Frank-Dieter Fischbach (EKD) gave an address - and today an inspiring sermon in the closing service! Thank you so much for accompanying our consultations!
The Synod has decided on their new leadership team for the next three years - may God bless their ministry in the challenges that lay ahead!
We enjoyed a lot of space: physically - (the grounds of the Centre are vast and stunning) and psychologically. We have voted boldly for investments into the future of our church/ churches - indeed in fragile times - and headspace for the new team lead by new Senior Silke Halfmann - based at St St. Marien mit St. Georg German Lutheran Church London.
My three years as Senior of the Synod have come to an end - it was an absolute pleasure, sometimes a challenge - but a privilege and experience that made me learn and grow so much. Thanks everybody in the team! This wouldn't have been possible without you!

Zusammen mit ihrer Widerstandsgruppe „Weiße Rose“ setzten sich Sophie und Hans Scholl gegen den Nationalsozialismus ein. Am 18. Februar 1943 verteilten sie an der Münchner Universität 1.700 Flugblätter und wurden dabei von einem SA-Mann entdeckt und schließlich von der Gestapo verhaftet. Am 22. Februar 1943 wurden Sophie und Hans Scholl zum Tode verurteilt und nur Stunden später hingerichtet.
