🎂 As the fifth-anniversary month of Cafe 16 at Newcastle Cathedral draws to a close, we’re delighted to share yesterday’s BBC Newcastle radio feature, which included interviews with three longstanding members of the team. 📻 Listen here: bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0p6z93k

The feature brought together Assistant Manager Fraser, Catering Operations Manager Clare Guiney, and Fiona Sample, CEO of The Oswin Project, to celebrate five years of helping people rebuild their lives after prison. 💙

🕯️ Our Cathedral is filled with memorials to lost loved ones – and with opportunities to pause, reflect and remember.

Join us next Sunday, 6 September, for ‘The Stories Our Objects Tell’, a creative writing workshop exploring the memories held in the things we treasure. ✍️ You’ll be invited to bring a personal keepsake and use it as inspiration for an original poem.

🔍 Our churchyard has a long and storied history. It hasn't been used for burials since the 1840s, when growing public health concerns necessitated the closure of most urban burial grounds. 🪦 You can learn more during our Heritage Open Days tours: ticketsource.co.uk/newcastle-cathedral

This older photo, which we believe dates from the 1880s, shows the overgrown Eastern Churchyard, roughly half a century before the extension that now houses Cafe 16 at Newcastle Cathedral was built! 🌳👀
