Parking Considerately at Newcastle Central Mosque
We are beginning to receive complaints from our neighbours regarding inconsiderate parking around the masjid. Sadly, some neighbours have even come to the masjid upset and angry due to the actions of a few individuals.
We remind all attendees:
• Do not park on double yellow lines
• Do not block dropped kerbs
• Do not park in front of driveways
• Do not block access points
• Do not double park
Such behaviour harms community relations and goes against the character a Muslim should uphold.
Newcastle City Council have now begun sending additional patrols to the area due to complaints. If you park illegally, you are liable to receive a £70 Penalty Charge Notice. Instead of giving that money to the council, park responsibly, car share where possible, arrive earlier and walk if you can, and donate that money to your family or the masjid instead.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“The Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hand the Muslims are safe.”
Sahih al Bukhari and Sahih Muslim
Causing harm to neighbours contradicts this teaching. Our neighbours have rights over us. Even small matters, such as how we park, fall under our responsibility as Muslims.
Attending the salah in congregation carries immense reward. But if a person harms others in the process, they risk losing that reward. Good deeds are not accepted when they are built upon wrongdoing and harm.
Islam already faces significant negativity in the media. Let us not add to that by behaving carelessly. Instead, let us uphold excellence in our character and be a positive example to our wider community.
Please park considerately. Protect the rights of our neighbours. Preserve the honour of our masjid.
