Twelve months ago, I repotted most of the small shrubs at the front of the prayer hall, which was NOT an easy task, as the twenty year old wooden pots had rotted and the roots had grown into the ground beneath them. After many hours over several weeks, I completed the task and now my labours have borne fruit, or in this case... blossoms. They've NEVER flowered before. 🌸

I was tidying up my mug cupboard (don't ask), when I found this and as you can see, it's a Passover plate manufactured by Grindley for George Jones. The text reads... עבדים היינו לפרעה במצרים (Avadim hayinu le'Pharaoh be'Mitzrayim) "We were slaves to Pharaoh in Egypt" and... והגדת לבנך ביום ההוא לאמר (Ve'higgadta le'vinkha ba'yom ha'hu le'mor) "And you shall tell your child on that day, saying..."

Last night we had our little Shavuot service and a little party to primarily commemorates G-d giving the Torah to the Jewish people at Mount Sinai. Also it marks the beginning of a summer wheat harvest and consumption of dairy foods. We had vegetarian Pizza, cheesecakes and a vegan cheeseboard. Though I must be honest... some of these pictures are not mine. 🤓

Last night saw he start of Shavuot, a major Jewish holiday that commemorates the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai and marks the ancient wheat harvest. Celebrated seven weeks after Passover, it is traditionally observed by staying up all night to study scripture, eating dairy foods and reading the Book of Ruth. We have a party and eat cheesecake. 🍰

Time for another book from the collection on our shelves. This one is just as relevant now as it ever was, possibly more so, considering recent events. Published in 1990 by SHAAR PRESS from Brooklyn in New York and distributed in Europe by J. Lehmann HEBREW BOOKSELLERS. 🔯

Last night was our first physical Friday Evening Sabbath Service, as we've reached that time of the year when it is not too dark for travelling to the Synagogue. So we're not sitting in our studies having a zoom service, as we've been doing for the past six months or so. Eight attendees (including myself), so two pictures were needed, or I couldn't fit me in with everybody. 😃

After the school left, I waited around for a little to see if the Chubb Security engineer would turn up as promised... He did not. So I took pictures of the plants at the front that have resurrected themselves due to new growth in the spring. Nice to see... The Japanese Maple donated by Ruta and the Variegated Laurel that has flowered for the first time. 😃

Today Monday 13th April 2026 for the UK Jewish Community's National Yom HaShoah Commemoration, honouring the memory of those six million Jews... murdered in the Shoah and the courage of Holocaust survivors and refugees who rebuilt their lives in Britain. 😢

As it's still Pesach (Passover), I'm presenting another Haggadah, which is the book that we use at our Seder to tell the story of the Exodus from Egypt. This was when G-d, acting through Moses led the Children of Israel across the deserts for over forty years to the Promised Land. This book has pictures and makes it far easier to enjoy the tale. 🔯

Tomorrow night sees the start of Passover (Pesach), it is a major Jewish festival celebrating freedom, as we remember the Exodus from Egypt thousands of years ago. The main observances of this holiday focus on a family service called the Seder, which includes a festive meal of symbolic foods to represent the tribulations that the Children of Israel suffered as slaves. ✡️
