A Statement from St Margaret’s Parochial Church Council (PCC)

‘Dear Dog owners who use St Margaret’s Churchyard.
It has come to our attention that some dog owners are acting irresponsibly and not treating this sacred place in a dignified manner by allowed their dogs off the lead and not clearing up their dogs mess and disposing of it in a responsible manner.
There are signs clearly displayed at both churchyard entrances and there is a dog waste bin adjacent to the Chetwyn Street entrance.
Parts of the Churchyard come under the jurisdiction of Newcastle Borough Council where they can issue fines for dog fouling.
The Churchyard is a place of Rememberance and reflection where many families and friends visit graves and memorials to their loved ones.
We want the whole Community to be able to use this beautiful and peaceful place.
We do not want to ban dogs so please any dog owners using the Churchyard please act respectfully and responsibility in accordance with the rules clearly displayed.
We would urge anyone seeing the rules not being complied with to report them online to Newcastle Borough Council for their action.
We will be monitoring the situation.

A Very Happy Easter to all.
St Margaret’s PCC
