Pray with us

The beautiful landscape: the hidden isolation.
The fruitful farmland: the hard work it demands.
The pride of industrial heritage: the uncertainty of global economics.
The enrichment of diverse cultures: the division that can result.
The inheritance of the Wesleys; the weight of not wanting the life of our chapel to end.
Holy God, in that place where joy and sorrow meet and things are not simply one thing or another, be with us.
And, more than that, help us to know that you are there.
In all the joys, all the sorrows, and all the places in between. Amen.

This coming Sunday is Breakfast Church led by Langley at the Services.Club. Come at 8.45 to grab a drink before we start at 9. Look forward to seeing you there. Maybe you haven’t been to church for some time. Breakfast Church is a great informal way to come along.

During our service yesterday we learnt about St Carlo Acutis who died 20 years ago today at only 15 years old.
On this his Catholic Feast day we can reflect on some of his final words which demonstrate his deep faith and devotion to God; "I die happy because I did not spend my life wasting my time on things not pleasing to God".
Carlo was just an ordinary teenager but had an extraordinary ability to love and serve the Lord.

Well, what an amazing service we had this morning when the young people led us through our very special “All Hallows Harvest Festival”. I don’t think there was anyone there who didn’t learn something. We began with thinking about harvest and how at the feeding of the 5000 people shared their 5 loaves and 2 fishes just as we shared our gifts for the food bank. Then we heard about the historical links between harvest and Halloween whilst being encouraged to be children of the light. As well as going on to think about All Saints Day and Saint Carlo Acutis - “the patron saint of the internet” who died aged 15, leaving behind so much for us to learn from - not least that we should celebrate that we are each unique and shouldn’t try to be photocopies of anyone else. Then we thought of the history & traditions of All Souls Day including Soul Cakes which we all got to share. The final section was all about new beginnings - from farming and the farmers seeds which grow unseen below the earth to us sharing our faith but not knowing how that will turn out and to Hope Church new beginnings as we look to find our new home. We got to plant mustard and cress seeds in little pots too. Such a lot to think and pray about! The young people each did their own research which was fantastic! We had fabulous harvest hymns and songs too - both old and new! Happy Harvest and many thanks to our young people and their leaders!

This Sunday (11th) it's Harvest! Join us at 10.45am at Newark Services Club, where our young people will lead our worship. Bring a gift for Newark Foodbank if you can – tinned soup, meat, veg, fruit, custard and rice pudding are especially needed.

Saturday prayer
Pray with us.

In sorrow and in joy you meet us.
In despair and in hope,
feeling ignored or fully known.
Help each of us to do the same:
to weep with those who mourn,
to be alongside the wounded,
to reach out to all,
to listen and not be quick to move away.
In this moment – whoever, wherever, however we are –
be our centre, grounding us,
opening our hearts to your grace and bidding. Amen.
