Align Yourself with the Word

As we stretch and grow our faith by going deeper into God’s Word, we can look around us and see that this is indeed the answer. Not looking at what the world declares, rather by delving deeper into the scriptures to help us grow in our present situations.

Look at what is happening all around us in the world today.
If we paid attention to everything we read in the media/social media, if we paid attention to what the news on TV reports, our faith will have been shot to pieces, for they report mostly the negativity of what is happening.
Instead, we try to grow our faith, by aligning ourselves with what the Bible teaches.

Alignment with the Word of God, acted on by faith, provides us with stability. When we are pulled in every direction by the world, we need the stability of His Word guiding us back onto the path He has directed us to walk.

Alignment with the Word of God provides us with support as clearly we will only do what Jesus would have done. (John 5 v 9)

Alignment with the Word of God provides us with strength to see us through any given situation, any trial, any storm (Philippians 4 v 13)

Alignment with the Word of God provides us with simplicity. Jesus never used long-winded phrases, He taught in parables, He called us and said “Follow Me”.

We need to align ourselves with the Word of God in every issue of life, relationships, hardships etc.
And to align ourselves, we need to have faith.
As scripture tells us in Luke 17 v 5, we also need to cry out to our Lord and say “… increase our faith”.

As our week unfolds, ask yourself, “what would Jesus do?”
He would encourage, bless and do good.
Let us mirror Him and do the same.

Be blessed,
Gareth

It Doesn’t Make Sense.

This past week, we were grieved by the appalling loss of life in the devastating flood in Nepal.
Add to that, the tragic loss of life of a spectator at the Big Church Festival, the UK’s largest Christian festival.
It make you wonder, how unfair life is.
Tragedy is just around the corner from anyone of us.

Many of my non-believing friends will say, “If there is a God, why did He allow this”.
And it’s hard for many, not to agree with this statement.

Yet.
Yet they miss the full understanding of who God is. Many do not believe in Him, yet when disaster strikes, they blame God.

I wish I had the answer as to why God sometimes steps in, and sometimes doesn’t.
We live in a world where many agree with the personal attacks on God, on my Christian faith, by Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens and others.

They do not see the God I see.
Yes, life is unfair for many, it doesn’t make sense when we read/hear of loss of life.
But I turn to His Word.
I do not have to understand the “why”, perhaps I will never understand it.
But scripture comforts me in tragedy.
I dwell on Psalm 34 v 18 which says, "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

And so, I lift my head up.
And friends, when you are faced with loss, when you are faced with tragedy, when you are faced with pain, when you cannot understand “why” and none of it makes sense, look to His Word.
Re-read this passage of scripture, read Revelation 21 v 4, read John 14 v 27 and so many more passages.

In the not knowing, in the not making sense of the situation, remember this, God has not and will never abandon you.

As our week unfolds, be the person who blesses, encourages and does good to those that are struggling to make sense of situations.

And in turn, be blessed,
Gareth

Frightening Scenes As Massive Wildfire Rages On Drumau Mountain In Skewen Amid Reports Of Local Nursing Home Being Evacuated 🚨🔥

Residents in Skewen are facing a truly terrifying night as a huge wildfire continues to tear across Drumau Mountain.

As captured in this latest image, you can clearly see the sheer scale of this devastating blaze.

A massive wall of flames is brightly illuminating the night sky, sending thick plumes of smoke billowing right over local terraced homes and residential streets.

It is an incredibly alarming sight for everyone living nearby.

Emergency services are out in force working tirelessly to bring the flames under control and protect the community.

If you live in the surrounding area, please make sure you keep your windows and doors firmly closed against the heavy smoke.

It is also vital to keep local roads completely clear so that fire crews can access the site safely and navigate their engines without delay.

Our thoughts remain with the brave firefighters tackling this challenging incident in the dark. Please stay safe and share this post to keep your friends and neighbours informed.

Ritual or a Lifestyle?

A close friend is currently on mission in Uganda a trip that regrettably I was unable to accompany him. Being away, whether mission or holiday, always gives me ample time to think, however busy I am.

Do we do what we do, because it is expected, because we ought or because it is the way we live?

When we consider that Jesus washed His disciples feet, we are lead to do likewise (not literally), but a service in some form, to and for another person.

But is that act merely a one-off expression, or do we ‘live’ that act, continuously?
It is a harsh question we ask of ourselves, one, if we live as we profess (as a Christian), it becomes a lifestyle - we do not have to consciously act in a particular way, we live it.
I confess that is something I easily do when on the mission field, after all, that is the purpose of being there, but do I translate that when home or on holiday?
I would have to confess, not all the time, to my shame.

Scripture says, in Philippians 2 v 3, “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind, let each esteem others better than himself”.
In other words, love, befriend, put others before yourself.

Friends, let this be our lifestyle, not one of selfish ambition, pushing aside our fellow men and women.

As our week unfolds, as God places people across our paths, continue to be an encourager, continue to be a blessing and please, continue to do good to all.
Let this be our natural ‘default’ position.

Be blessed,
Gareth
