Happy St Dunstan's Day!

Happy St Dunstan's Day!

Lectionary 19 May: Saint Dunstan (c. 909 – 988) was Archbishop of Canterbury from 960 until his death. He was the most prominent religious leader of Anglo-Saxon England, serving as a key advisor to several Kings of Wessex. Canonised in 1029, he was England's most popular saint for nearly two centuries before Thomas Becket.

According to one legend, Dunstan, a skilled blacksmith, was busy working at his forge when the Devil visited him in disguise. Recognizing his visitor's true identity, Dunstan grabbed the Devil by the nose with the burning tongs and forced him to flee.
