We meet on the first and third Sunday of the month at the Ebenezer Chapel in Harwich. Today there were daffodils, sorrow and joy, and lemon drizzle cake.

Our next meeting is on Sunday 19th April at 10.30am. 🕊️ 🍰 You will be very welcome.

This poem touches on: A moment of universal silence and introspection: The poem begins with the idea of an "exotic moment without rush, without engines," where "we would all be together in a sudden strangeness." This signifies a desire for humanity to pause, reflect, and connect in a shared moment of stillness.
Cessation of violence and harm: Neruda wishes for a world where "Fishermen in the cold sea would not harm whales" and those who prepare "green wars, wars with gas, wars with fire" would instead "put on clean clothes and walk about with their brothers in the shade, doing nothing." This expresses a strong desire for an end to environmental exploitation and all forms of conflict and violence.
Healing and self-awareness: The line "the man gathering salt would not look at his hurt hands" symbolizes a desire for individuals to acknowledge and address their own suffering, and perhaps for a world where such suffering is minimized.
