SAINT OF THE DAY

Today we celebrate the feast of St Barnabas, the patron saint of our church in Box.

Barnabas was one of the very earliest followers of Jesus and a leader of the early church. His story is told in the Acts of the Apostles and he is also mentioned in some of Paul’s letters.

Originally called Joseph, he was given his new name of Barnabas by those who knew him well. It means son of encouragement, a name that truly reflected his character. He was known for supporting others, building up the community and helping the faith grow in its earliest days.

May we follow his example and be a source of strength and encouragement to all those around us.

We may not see God with our eyes, but we experience Him through the way we care for each other. When we choose love, we carry His presence right in our hearts.

Did you know that the Yew trees planted in Churyards are steeped in rich folklaw? Often symbolizing the boundry between life, death and resurrection. Ancient cultures saw them as symbols of everlasting life. We have two large Yews here in Holy Trinity Church, Minchinhampton and they provide a haven for wildlife. We also are home to a family of Gold crests who like the red berries of the Yew.

During assembly at Minchinhampton Academy this morning we looked at herbs in the garden and medicinal plants that we might think of as weeds. We learned all about St Hildegard of Bingen who was the founder of herbal medicine. The children really enjoyed sniffing the herbs but we stopped short of eating them. All part of Big green week.

First Preview: The Rose Window Shines Again!

The first phase of our Windows Project is drawing to a close, and we’re thrilled to share the first look at the restored Rose Window at Holy Trinity Minchinhampton!

The light and colour revealed through this painstaking restoration are simply spectacular, truly breathtaking.

A huge thank you to for their incredible work bringing this magnificent window back to life and preserving it for generations to come.

We’re looking forward to resuming worship in the Lady Chapel soon. There’s still a little finishing work to do, but we’re almost there we’re so excited we couldn’t wait to share a preview with you!

Today for BGW I am postibg a picture of the Blue T**s that made their home in the nest box at Holy Trinity Church, Minchinhampton. The 5 chicks all sucessefully fledged early one morning. Unusually they were being fed by 3 adult birds so they were in good shape to fly the nest.

Many Churchyards across the country are mini nature reserves and a haven for wildlife. At Holy Trinity Church, Minchinhampton we have lots of resident animals and wild flowers. At the moment if you take a walk through the churchyard you will see Poppies and Daiseys. Thanks to Dave Kirby who took this picture.
