The world is a noisy place and sometimes we need to seek the quiet to return to ourselves. This does not mean we are turning our backs on those that need us, but we are cultivating our own peace and strength to better serve in the future. Take time for yourself this week, listen to the silences, and seek your inner peace.

MK Friends are taking a few minutes in their day, every day, to pause for peace. Please join us wherever you are. We offer here some texts and a piece of music which we hope may provide some inspiration and nourishment as you settle into your reflections on peace, be it for yourself, loved ones,…

“When I was in primary school, I was a part of Girl Scouts of the USA and one of the lessons which was instilled in us was “Leave it better than you found it”. I carry this mantra with me to this day, letting it inform not only my day to day activities, but also my general outlook on life and my place in the world. I hope that I will leave the world better than I found it for the next generation.

How can we leave the world better than we found it?

How can we hold peace and pass it onto the next generation?”

Hope has nothing to do with what you think is going to happen, and everything to do with where you point your life, sometimes in spite of the odds, rather than because of them.

Day 20:

So, our life-affirming adventure has come to an end. Thankfully there were no injuries. We hope you’ve enjoyed dipping into the blogs. They have been an important part of our journey and it has meant a lot to us to know that we were being supported by Friends/friends and families, and anyone else reading them.

Over and out, Jim and Camilla

Day 19 - a hard day for our valiant pair. And what’s with all the litter?

Today’s ride has been the toughest of the route and also the toughest 55 miles I’ve ever ridden. Why? The wind. Not just any old old wind, THE WIND. From start to finish we were battered by 25+mph winds. From the west, sometimes from the east, but mainly from the north. Which didn’t help as…

Day 18 - in which Camilla and Jim fail to find a cafe, but experience ever-changing scenery.

Rain, hail, sunshine and Altnaharra Lairg, a curious little town that describes itself as the “Crossroads of the North”, was where we had chosen for lunch. A grand signpost pointed us in the direction of its “Tourist Facilities” but all we found was a block of public toilets! Where are all t...

Day 17 - in which Jim is challenged by a strong wind but Camilla isn’t, and they experience strong botanical aromas.

What a day weatherwise! Started off damp and cold. Then sunshine. Then cold headwinds. Then rain, of course cold. Then sun. Then hailstones (twice). Then sun and calm. And finally a rainbow welcoming us to Alness. Made for an interesting day in the “what to wear now” stakes. So goodbye Aviemore ...

Day 16 - following the rail track into the Highlands.

We’re on our way to the Highlands, yikes! There’s no real alternative to cycling to John O’Groats from southern Scotland without going through the Highlands. So, today was the day! We’re heading for Cairngorms National Park. I’m feeling a little nervous. As soon as we leave Pitlochry the b...
