I have so enjoyed my research into Saxon Paganism ready for Celtfest Wales 2026. A simple yet harrowing time to be alive, perhaps a bit like today πŸ€”

Love. Tumultuous, tumbling
Raw and unforgiving
Head and heart in unison saying
This is right
This is home.
This is lust in trembling harmony saying Yes, oh god! Yes.
This is flesh and bone and nerve singing in pleasure.
This is faith and sin,
A new religion of just you and I
Lying in the fog of love divinely made
The strange tingling of your mere presence in my veins
The want. The longing for even a brush of your hand on mine
This is the battle cry of hearts screaming for unity
Begging for forever
Seething with the injustice of the unmet need
Come to my arms and stay there
We can die in this bed
A thousand little deaths
Over and over and I swear on every saint
Every deity ever imagined
It will never fade to mediocrity
You can say your prayers not with hands clasped together
But with hands gripping my flesh
Cries not of hallelujah but of wordless guttural ecstasy
Our bodies make the sacred place
Drink my wine and taste my flesh
The flesh of the Goddess
Of every woman who came before me
Sing the holy songs
Silent with your mouth on mine
This is sanctuary
This is worship most holy
This is the salvation and glory of heaven on earth

Today I facilitated a final rite for a close friend of mine, with her family gathered at her bedside. Her time is drawing nearer by the hour. I ask you to light a candle today for her and her family.

There is no "official" Pagan last rites, so the ceremony is written for each person individually, but along these lines..

We welcome the elements, ancestors and deities, calling the directions to cast a circle. This creates a sacred space with the family and the intended inside.

We do the "talking stick", so those gathered can say whatever they want to say. This was beautiful today. Very emotional and heartfelt.

We wish them peace, calm, joy and safe travels. Blessing each part of their physical vessel with an anointing of oil or water.

We call the ancestors forth and ask them to receive the intended, to guide them on their journey.

We remind them that wherever they go, we will all one day follow.

We acknowledge our love and grief, and send them forth knowing that they have blessed us just by being a part of our lives.

We close the circle, wishing farewell to the elements, deities and ancestors, and finally to the intended.

It was my deepest honour to do this today, and to see the love she has poured into her husband, her children and her family.

May the ancestors hold your hand and guide you.

Go well, go easy, and we will join you one day πŸ™
