On 12th October 1885 officers from seven Boys' Brigade Companies in Glasgow met to form the Glasgow Battalion of the Boys' Brigade.
To mark the 140th Anniversary, Battalion Secretary Jim McVean will be taking on a special challenge during the school autumn break (13–19 October). He'll be walking 140km, beginning at the 1st Vale of Leven BB Hall in Bonhill, Alexandria and visiting each of the 50 current BB Company locations across our Battalion, the journey finishing at the 1st Glasgow in the West End.
The Vision of the Boys’ Brigade is that children and young people experience “life to the full.” (John 10:10), the aim of the walk is to raise funds to support local programming and Battalion wide activities and events that make such a difference to young people across Glasgow.
If you’d like to support this challenge you can give via the Stewardship link below, or visit our website for other ways to give. If you have a current or former connection with an active Company within the Battalion and you mention that when giving, half of your donation goes back to that Company for local use, with the other half helping to deliver activities around the Battalion.
Day 1 covers 26km from Bonhill to Milngavie; Day 2, 23km from Milngavie to Cardonald; Day 3 25km from Cardonald to Newton Mearns; Day 4 19km from Eaglesham to Croftfoot, Day 5 19km from Croftfoot to Baillieston, Day 6 14km from Baillieston to Bishopbriggs and Day 7 15km from Cadder to Kelvin West Church, stopping off at Glasgow Cathedral for the 140th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service at 11am.
