It is a cross between a crib service, a Christingle, and ridiculousness! The perfect informal event to bring your over excited family members whatever age they may be!

Mark Prevett, the Ministry Area Leader of the Merthyr Tydfil Ministry Area is retiring at the end of the year.

Mark has been leading the team in Merthyr for eleven years and navigated the churches of the town through a significant season of change and reorganisation.

Bishop Mary says “Mark is a diligent priest with a long history of fruitful ministry in a variety of contexts. I am grateful for all he has done as he has carefully and kindly shepherded the people of Merthyr through some challenging and changing times.”

Archdeacon Rhod says “I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Mark since I arrived in the diocese. He quietly gets things done. He is the definition of a safe pair of hands. I am grateful for his long ministry, his commitment to this diocese and I wish him well in his retirement.”

Mark has a long and varied ministry, ordained in 1988 in the Diocese of Swansea and Brecon, Mark served two Curacies in Brynmawr and Bassaleg. He was then appointed Rector of Blaina in the Diocese of Monmouth. Moving to the Church of England after five years, Mark was Team Vicar in Halesowen and Area Dean of Dudley in the Diocese of Worcester, before becoming Rector of Totton in the Diocese of Wi******er, a role he held for ten years. He returned to the Church in Wales and the Diocese of Llandaff when he moved to Merthyr eleven years ago.

His last service as Ministry Area Leader will be on the 29th December. Mark is moving to Newport on the 3rd January 2025 where he is planning to do a lot of gardening.

Mae Mark wedi bod yn arwain y tîm ym Merthyr ers un mlynedd ar ddeg ac wedi llywio eglwysi’r dref drwy dymor sylweddol o newid ac ad-drefnu.

Dywed yr Esgob Mary “Mae Mark yn offeiriad diwyd sydd â hanes hir o weinidogaeth ffrwythlon mewn amrywiaeth o gyd-destunau. Rwy’n ddiolchgar am bopeth y mae wedi’i wneud gan ei fod wedi bugeilio pobl Merthyr yn ofalus ac yn garedig trwy gyfnod heriol a chyfnewidiol.”

Dywed yr Archddiacon Rhod “Rwyf wedi mwynhau gweithio gyda Mark yn fawr ers i mi gyrraedd yr esgobaeth. Mae'n cyflawni pethau'n dawel. Ef yw'r diffiniad o bâr diogel o ddwylo. Rwy’n ddiolchgar am ei weinidogaeth hir, ei ymrwymiad i’r esgobaeth hon a dymunaf yn dda iddo yn ei ymddeoliad.”

Mae gan Mark weinidogaeth hir ac amrywiol, a ordeiniwyd ym 1988 yn Esgobaeth Abertawe ac Aberhonddu, gwasanaethodd Mark ddau Guradiaeth ym Mrynmawr a Basaleg. Yna penodwyd ef yn Rheithor Blaenau yn Esgobaeth Mynwy. Gan symud i Eglwys Loegr ar ôl pum mlynedd, bu Mark yn Ficer Tîm yn Halesowen ac yn Ddeon Bro Dudley yn Esgobaeth Caerwrangon, cyn dod yn Rheithor Totton yn Esgobaeth Wi******er. Rôl a ddaliodd am ddeng mlynedd. Dychwelodd i'r Eglwys yng Nghymru ac Esgobaeth Llandaf pan symudodd i Ferthyr un mlynedd ar ddeg yn ôl.

Bydd ei wasanaeth olaf fel Arweinydd Ardal Weinidogaeth ar 29 Rhagfyr. Mae Mark yn symud i Gasnewydd ar 3 Ionawr 2025 lle mae'n bwriadu gwneud llawer o arddio.
