Hope Church Merthyr

Hope Church Merthyr We are a church made up of ordinary people whose lives have been changed by the Good News of Jesus.

We are a local church family made up of ordinary people whose lives have been changed by the Good News of Jesus, and are seeking to partner with God to see all things made new. We do this by Encountering the God who is real and wants to be in relationship with us; by Equipping one another to live out the new life we've found in Jesus; and by Engaging our wider community with the Good News in word

and deed. If you want to connect with us or explore what this would mean for your life then please get in touch by dropping us a message or filling out the form on our website. We meet weekly at 10:30am on Sunday mornings in Hope Chapel, High Street, Merthyr, CF478UG. We also live stream our sermons on our page 'Hope TV Merthyr'.

⛪️✨CATCH UP✨⛪️

I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift.
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4‬:‭1‬-‭7‬ ‭ESV‬‬

This is a complete foundation of unity.
It lacks nothing.
And so we’re meant to be one, and we share this one foundation, but we’re not meant to be clones.
We’re meant to be this kind of body that is made up of diverse individuals who are individuals.
We come from different backgrounds and different histories.
We’ve got different preferences.
We’ve got different life stories.
And yet He’s pulled us together as this diverse, different group of people to display something of His glory in the world. He’s given us different gifts, but grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift.

⛪️✨CATCH UP✨⛪️

Firstly, God blesses you so you can be a blessing to others.
Secondly, God changes us from the inside out.
Thirdly, that heart change is focused upon who’s in charge and who owns us.
Fourthly, we receive love from God to give to others, and we show to others what it looks like to live day by day as loved children.
But fundamentally, we’re all called to show the world and the people in our lives how good and how beautiful it is to live as God’s loved children with God in charge.
We’re invited into this relationship where we can show others that it’s good, and it’s beautiful to have God in charge of our lives and not ourselves - and that is what it is to live as a loved child of God.

I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭12‬:‭2‬-‭3‬ ‭NIV‬‬

⛪️ Sunday Gathering at 10:30, everyone is welcome!

No membership, no seating plan, no dress code - come as you are 🙏

What are we actually modelling to the people around us? This Sunday, Mark Stirling will explore discipleship, identity, and what it means to live as people genuinely transformed by the love of God - not just outwardly religious, but inwardly shaped by grace.
As we gather, we are a family, and God has grace-gifted each one of us for the comfort, encouragement and building up of the whole church. Ask the Lord ahead of Sunday if there is any way that he wants to use you to build others up.

Hope Kids will run for little ones during the service, and tea and coffee will be available afterwards.

See you there! 👋

CATCH UP 🙏✨📝

You don’t build a tree, and you don’t grow a house.

But if you’re talking about a living temple with living stones, it works. This is nothing new - even Jesus talked about this.
Rootedness, being part of this vine, and abiding in Him. He dwells in me so I’m rooted and secure, and that’s good. He dwells in us because we’re rooted and grounded in His love - that’s better.
So in our own right, we can be rooted, but we can still be wobbly. But when you have this picture of us as a collective, when there’s lots of us together, it means we’re more solid. We’re more steady, we’re a little bit less shakeable, and this is both secure and stable.

“So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭3‬:‭17‬-‭19‬ ‭ESV‬‬

It is a Bank Holiday this coming Monday, so there is no Kids Club or Out for an Hour

This Sunday 🗓️

Ephesians 3: 14-21
After taking a necessary detour into the mystery of the gospel with Paul, we now come back to Paul’s prayer.
He’s praying for power… but what we need that power for might surprise you!

As we gather, we are a family, and God has grace-gifted each one of us for the comfort, encouragement and building up of the whole church. Ask the Lord ahead of Sunday if there is any way that he wants to use you to build others up.

📝 A note about Men’s Youth Club -
Due to the Wales Leadership Forum happening at 9:30am, MYC will be starting slightly earlier than usual at 8:30am. Whether or not you’re attending the forum, you are still welcome! Additionally, this is not just for “youth”, whatever age you are, you’re more than welcome to attend!

CATCH UP 🙏✨📝

Now you think about the way that we work, who do we tend to be kind to?
We tend to be kind towards people we like and people who do nice things for us - we tend to work on a kind of quid pro quo basis.
That’s not God’s grace.
God’s grace is where He is the one with all of the resources, all of the riches, and we are the ones
with none of the resources or worse, less than none of the resources.
And He leans in towards us, and he shares the benefit of all that he is with us.
And He doesn’t just give us His goodies.
He gives us Himself.
He shares His very life with us.
Now, if you thought about that, that’s a wild thought, isn’t it? That God Himself shares Himself with us.
That’s what his grace is.

Ephesians 3:7-13
