A novena is one of the oldest and simplest forms of prayer in the Church. The word means “nine days.” The very first novena was prayed by the apostles, with Mary, in the days between the Ascension of the Lord and the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. They waited. They prayed. The Spirit came.

So grateful for every moment shared, every conversation, every prayer, every laugh, and every person who made this retreat so special.

To all our guest speakers, who so generously gave their time to share their gifts, talents, and faith with us — we offer our deepest thanks. Your presence, wisdom, and witness have truly inspired us. Thank you.

A huge thank you as well to our parish leaders, the team, and all the young people who brought such joy, energy, and openness throughout the weekend. This retreat would not have been the same without each one of you.

We're hiring! 🍳

The Briars Catholic Youth Retreat Centre in Crich is looking for a friendly, capable Cook to join our small catering team.

You'll be cooking wholesome, well-presented meals for groups of up to 60+ guests on retreat with us — confident on solo shifts, happy catering for a range of dietary needs, and a great team player.

🕐 18 hours per week, term-time only + 2 additional weeks (occasional weekends) 💷 £12.60 – £14.00 per hour, depending on experience 📍 The Briars, Crich, Derbyshire 📅 Part-time, permanent (3-month probation)

Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to obtain one) and an enhanced DBS check required.
If you take pride in your cooking, enjoy a busy kitchen and want a meaningful role with a charity that supports young people, we'd love to hear from you.
