January Messy Church is at All Saints Church Hall Smedley Street this Sunday (11th) from 4 to 6pm. Hopefully we will all be able to get up, down or across the hill by then!
We will be hearing a story about a very stormy day, making crafts, singing and joining in with a meal. It's all free but you can make a donation if you wish. All children must be accompanied by adults. New people are always welcome.

At our Christmas Messy church we heard about how important the angels were in the Nativity story. There were Nativity biscuits to ice with very shiny icing (it looked like nail varnish but tasted good), pop-up cards, baubles, angel chimes and paper plate angels. Tom brought along musical instruments and we all joined in with the Christmas songs. Afterwards we had plenty to eat and the children all went home with a chocolate angel and story.

We are really looking forward to Christmas Messy church at All Saints Church Hall, on Sunday 14th December from 4 to 6pm.
Come along to hear a different slant on the Christmas story, enjoy some Christmas songs and join in with our Christmas crafts. There will be festive food for everyone. People of any age are welcome but children need to be accompanied by adults. It's all free but any donations made help towards costs.

Last month we heard about a man who sells everything to buy a pearl of great price and about a man who found treasure in a field. They both knew how important it is to be part of God's kingdom.
We made pearl biscuits (very tasty), a clam shell with a pearl, a chest of sparkling treasure and a promise box containing a different kind of treasure. The last picture shows part of the song which Tom wrote for our Messy Church. We all enjoyed making a joyful noise with various instruments as we sang along. No musical skill is needed although earplugs might be!

Last month we enjoyed being at our new location where we heard that we should stop concentrating on how things used to be and join in with the new things that God is doing. (See Isaiah 43: 18 - 20)

We turned food into new animal creations, made animals into new creatures, found paths and rivers in the desert and thought about letting go of old ideas, places and things to make room for something new and to make new friends.

MESSY CHURCH HAS MOVED! Come along to All Saints Church Hall Smedley Street to join in. There will be a story, songs, lots of activities and a meal which are all free. (Any donations made will go towards costs.) This month's activities might result in sticky, chocolaty and sandy hands; preferably not all at the same time! We start at 4pm and end around 6. New people are always welcome. All children must be accompanied by adults who are free to join in with any of the activities. This month's theme is about new things.

Our last get together in July was based on the story of Samuel who heard God's voice but didn't know who was calling him. We thought about how hard it is to listen sometimes and how God shows that children are important too and can do amazing things.

Last month we looked at the story of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector. We learnt that saying sorry to God when we do things wrong is really important. The crafts included making models of the two men in the story; thinking about times when we do the wrong thing, or could do something better or in a new way; making heart shaped prayer chains for Lent and making Thank you/I'm sorry prayer boxes.

Last month it was time to celebrate our 8th birthday with cake and party food. The theme was about how God welcomes everyone into his family. It was also about how some food was considered clean or unclean, which explains the bat craft! We found out about words for love in different languages and also played a board game.

Last month we heard about how Jesus told Nicodemus that he must be born again! We thought about how people can change and take a new direction in life, deciding to follow Jesus. There was a butterfly craft based on changing and growing. There were new hearts made out of old magazines. The chocolates were made of lots of ingredients mixed together to make something new and the playdough could start out as one model and then be remade into something else. Everyone had something to take home, although some of the chocolates might not have lasted until the end of the session!
