St Giles Church Matlock

St Giles Church Matlock Saint Giles is the ancient parish church of Matlock. Come to Sung Eucharist 9.30am Sunday, children's craft area and coffee afterwards.

Eucharist 10am Thursday, 8.30am Saturday. Morning Prayer 9.30am Monday, Wednesday, Thursday. Visit stgilesmatlock.co.uk Our church life is centred on the Sunday morning Sung Eucharist where, within the Anglican liturgy, we aim to combine the traditional and modern, the formal and relaxed, drawing worshippers of all ages. We aim to make the beauty and symbolism of our sacramental tradition availabl

e to a new generation. By our regular weekday celebrations of Holy Communion and our care for our much loved church building we provide a place where the Word of God may be heard in stillness and peace. Through our service in the local community, our social life and works of witness, we aim to be a channel by which men and women may seek God. Please see our website www.stgilesmatlock.co.uk for the calendar and details of services.

SAVE THE DATE: Come to Litter Pick and for Phase 1 Build of the Bug-Hotel on Monday June 8th at 6pm – 7.30pm, for Environment Week.

Litter is not a huge problem in Saint Giles churchyard, but it is amazing what you see once you start looking. Here is a chance to have a wander around, help tidy up and also start looking out for the different wildlife that is in the church yard.

Please wear sensible footwear as the ground is uneven and steep in places. We can provide litter pickers, rubbish sacks and disposable gloves but please bring your own protective gloves if you have them. Please come to the church entrance to pick up sacks etc. and so that we know who is taking part.

Bug Hotel we've had a kind donation of wooden pallets that we plan to use to create a bug hotel. Phase 1 will involve putting the pallets in the right place, making sure they are stable and have gaps for “interior design” and providing some kind of roof. A name plate would also be good. If you want to help with this it would be good to bring some heavy-duty gloves. We plan to furnish it at the Wednesday event. See website for details.

Note: Children must be accompanied by an adult to attend our events.

Details of other Environment Week events are on the website: https://stgilesmatlock.co.uk

A MESSAGE ABOUT OUR CHURCHYARD:

We love the churchyard and are delighted that it is a shared space, and a gift of God. It is shared by all the people who visit. It is also shared with the birds, animals and plants who can find a home here.

We want everyone to be able to enjoy it and so you will notice some areas which may seem untidy and unkempt.

We are caring for them especially by encouraging flower and insect life. We have left the grass uncut and planted wildflower seeds which we hope will bloom and then seed down. The grass will be cut and removed in such a way that the flowers have chance to re-seed and flower again next year.

This is a long-term project, subject to weather and other factors; it will not look amazing immediately. We hope you will enjoy watching what happens.
