St Anne’s Church stands at the heart of Beeley and for eight hundred years it has been serving the village community. To ensure St Anne’s can continue being a pivotal part of the village and community, there are a couple of exciting projects being developed.
The churchyard now has little space for new burials; there are only about eight plots left and not all of those are suitable for a double grave, this may mean the churchyard is full in the next two or three years. In 1937 the churchyard was extended and a planning application has been submitted to again extend the churchyard into half of the field in front of The Croft. The Parish Council has supported this application. There are a number of requirements from Peak Park Planning including some large-scale archaeological works costing £8,000 before the extension can proceed. Then there will be the landscaping costs. If the project is not successful, then sadly new burial plots will not be available and most of the residents of Beeley would need to be buried elsewhere in the coming years.
When the toilet was added to the church a few years ago, there was an aspiration to add a kitchen to allow refreshments to be served after services and during events. Plans have now been drawn up to convert part of the vestry into a kitchen, as well as creating a space for refreshments in front of the vestry door into the North Aisle. This will enable refreshments to be served more regularly and more events held for the village, making St Anne’s even more welcoming to the whole community.
These two projects will benefit the village community and will enhance the church and the surrounding area. The cost of both projects will add up to around £45,000. St Anne’s Parochial Church Council (PCC) is drawing on its reserves as well as applying for grants and fundraising. The PCC wanted to ask you, as part of the village community, to help financially to allow St Anne’s to continue to serve the people of Beeley through the delivery of these projects.
