Meet the ministers… 👋

We're Dan and Annie, Pioneer Ministers at Vale Community Church.

A little bit about us…

We've been married for 25 years and have four kids - one newly married, one at uni, one teenager and one little one who keeps us young - plus a rescue dog and an Albanian street cat who adopted us.

Dan grew up in Southend and came to faith in his twenties. He worked as a social worker before training as a minister at Spurgeon's College in London. Annie, on the other hand, grew up in the faith - she comes from a long line of Baptist ministers -and is a physiotherapist. She still works two days a week for the NHS, and has been approved to train as a Baptist minister too, so there's never a dull week in our house.

We spent 20 years living overseas as missionaries, most recently in Albania, where in 2016 we started Tek Ura - community centres in Tirana and Durrës helping people find skills, recovery, rehab and a church family. Albania is still very much part of who we are: we spend a good chunk of every year there, and the Tek Ura family is our family. So these days we're a two-home couple, Tirana and Marston Moretaine, with two church families we love -and we count that as a real gift.

What we love most is seeing people who never thought church was for them discover that God was already at work in their lives - belonging first, and finding Jesus along the way. That's why so much of what we do happens around a table: a free community meal on a Tuesday, Messy Mornings on a Saturday, honest faith conversations in the pub.

Dan's weakness is Arsenal (pray for him) and far too much coffee at Marston Beans - and most other coffee shops within a ten-mile radius. Annie's is a good book, a crime drama, a board game, and any excuse for a picnic or a long walk - ideally all on the same day.

We'd love to meet you. We gather at 10.30am every Sunday at Marston Moreteyne School, Forest End site, on Great Linns - it's tucked behind the hedge, so look out for the signs. And if Sunday feels like a big first step, come and eat with us at The Table on a Tuesday teatime instead.

We believe the best is yet to come for this village, and we'd love you to be part of it.

Barrie Dupree was one of us — at The Table most weeks, in the Friday life group, and in his seat on a Sunday with a terrible joke ready for anyone who'd listen. We'll miss him more than we can say.

His funeral is on Saturday 21 November: 10am at Crownhill Crematorium, Milton Keynes, then 11.45am here at Vale (Marston Moreteyne VC School, Forest End) for worship and a celebration of his life, with sandwiches and a cuppa afterwards. Everyone's welcome at both.

☀️ Messy Mornings is on this Saturday!

🗓 Saturday 10 October | 10–11am
📍 Marston Pavilion, Recreation Ground, Marston Moretaine

Grab the kids (and a warm coat!) and join us for a relaxed hour of breakfast, games, crafts and good conversation. This week we'll be sharing a Bible sensory story, a hands-on way to experience the story through touch, sound, smell and sight. Perfect for little explorers of every age and ability! Then we'll take a moment to pray together.

No church background needed and no need to book. Just come as you are. Muddy knees and spilt juice are very welcome 😄

Ever feel like your sin is the loudest noise in the room? 🔊
On Sunday we carried on with our series on David, 'The Making of a King', and we didn't skip the hard chapter. Dan took us through how David slowly drifted away from God, and how that drift led to adultery, an attempted cover-up and, in the end, murder.
But that's not where the story ends. Dan showed us how Jesus gave Peter a way back after he messed up, and how God gave David a way back too, by lovingly convicting him of what he'd done.
"David's story isn't in the Bible to shame him. It's there as a trophy of grace."
The same is true for us. When we mess up and fess up, God's mercy is always greater than our sin. There's always a way back. 🙌

🌾🍎 HARVEST SUNDAY at Vale Community Church 🍎🌾

This Sunday (4 October) we're celebrating Harvest, and you're warmly invited!

It's a morning to stop and say thank you: for food on our tables, for the people around them, and for the God who gives every good gift.

Dan will be continuing our series on King David with 'Rooftop to The Table': the story of a king who had more than enough, still reached for more, and what that says to us about gratitude and contentment.

Come as you are. Families, first-timers, the curious and the regulars: there's a seat at the table for everyone.
