Markinch Church Markinch Church Times of Services
Our main weekly services are held in Thornton Church at 9.45am and Markinch Church at 11.15am each Sunday morning.

Holy Communion is celebrated four times a year, in February, May, August and November. Induction Loop
The Church has fitted an induction loop for the hard of hearing. Anyone with a hearing aid can switch it to the ‘T’ position and they will be able to hear the Minister more clearly. Sunday School
Our Sunday School meets at 11.00am in the Church Hall, Kirk Brae, Markinch. Parents are encouraged to

bring their children into church for the first part of the 11.15am service then the children leave after the Children’s Address and the second hymn. Your Wedding Ceremony
Markinch Parish Church is a beautiful setting for your Wedding, but before dates are finalised you should speak to the Minister to ascertain his own, and the Church’s availability. A pamphlet entitled ‘Preparing for Your Wedding in Markinch Parish Church’ is available from the Minister or Session Clerk. Its contents are contained on the Weddings page. Baptism
The Sacrament of Baptism normally takes place on the first Sunday of each month. Parents wishing a baptism for their children should contact the Minister giving as much notice as possible.

This week, amongst the other visitors to St Drostan's church, we were delighted to welcome a group of pilgrim walkers from Los Angeles, USA who were over here to walk the Fife Pilgrim Way. The tour was organised by Celtic Ways Ireland and the walk was led by the Fife Pilgrim Way Pastor.
We provided tea and coffee at the end of their days walk and they were interested to hear about everything that goes on in our church.
We then split into groups to give them a full guided tour of the 12th century tower and the church, highlighting all the important archaeological and historical features which have revealed themselves over the last few years of research.
Thanks to all the volunteer guides and and the hospitality team who gave our visitors a warm Markinch welcome.
The group will continue their pilgrimage to St Andrews and will then travel to the island of Iona for a few days.

Markinch Heritage Group's May talk will be on Thursday 7th May at 7pm in the 252 Hall. Everyone is welcome.

This week, it was my pleasure to welcome and walk part of the way with Rev Dr Rhona Knight and her group, who were heading from Culross to St Andrews on pilgrimage. What a fine week they have had for it... once the haar cleared anyway! Thank you also to all who helped to look after them on their journey.

Tours begin at Markinch Church next Monday and continue into October. There are some fascinating details to discover. I know the team here was wowed by the hundreds of stonemasons' marks in the tower! So why not for a bit and meet the enthusiastic and knowledgeable guides there.

Medieval pilgrims on the way to St Andrews would have stopped at Markinch for rest and refreshments. The village has lovely cafés and hotels for today's travellers, gift shops, a convenience store, golf course and beautiful trails to walk around Balbirnie Park. There's lots of history and heritage to discover like the ancient Stob Cross. And all reachable from the town's railway station - if you're not walking there that is.
