The HMRC Charities Online system used for submitting Gift Aid and GASDS claims is now working. If it has a 'moment' during the claiming process, please phone HMRC on 0300 123 1073. If a claim you submitted after Wednesday 20th May hasn't been repaid by HMRC within the next couple of weeks, or if you didn't receive a Gateway Response email after claiming, please call HMRC.

Almost £100k has just been given to churches across the UK using easyfundraising over the last 3 months alone. All courtesy of retailers giving donations when kind supporters shop online. Your church can be part of the next funding payout in August by setting up a free easyfundraising page.
Register your church as a good cause with easyfundraising and ask your church community to choose you as the cause they want to support. Then, each time they shop online with over 8,000 well-known retailers like Tesco, trainline, M&S, Sainsbury’s, booking.com, eBay, and many more, they’ll activate a cashback donation for your church courtesy of the retailer they shopped with – at no extra cost to anyone.

Attention all Diocese of Manchester churches - the HMRC Charities Online System (used to claim Gift Aid and GASDS) went offline on Wednesday afternoon and is still down.
This means the diocese's Gift Aid Lite scheme will not be able to send any claims to HMRC for repayment until next Tuesday at the earliest. If your church claims directly via HMRC, please try again next week.
Your church's Treasurer or Gift Aid Secretary may have submitted a claim after Wednesday afternoon and may not have received a 'Gateway Response' email from HMRC confirming receipt of the claim. If this is the case, their advice is to contact them again next week.
A further update will be provided next Tuesday, but for now, enjoy your bank holiday weekend.

The latest details about the new 'Places of Worship Renewal Fund' are now available on the Historic England website. Please make sure you read the guidance and follow it carefully before submitting an application from your Diocese of Manchester church.
The first deadline for an Expression of Interest is Sunday 14th June 2026. Full details of the information needed, according to the size of the grant requested, are on the Historic England website. There will be future opportunities to apply, and the next one will be in September 2026. The government wants the funding to reach where there is the greatest need for investment and the most community benefit.
Advice is available from diocese staff to support fundraising and planning projects at your church. This includes these training dates:
- 'How to register and use the free Open4Community grant search portal' is taking place online on Thursday 11th June.
- 'How to write a successful application for external funding' ia taking place online on Thursday 18th July.
- 'Planning a big project at your church' is taking place in person on Saturday 18th July at St John's House.
The registration links for these courses are in the comments below.

Does your Diocese of Manchester church host telecommunications infrastructure in your building (or is it thinking about doing this)? If so, Parish Buying has revised the advice on The Church of England website to include information for churches and their advisors to mitigate some of the changes made within the new 'Electronic Communications Code'. The Church of England has signed a memorandum of understanding with several telecommunications operators to give churches better rights, including income. For further details, visit https://www.churchofengland.org/resources/churchcare/advice-and-guidance-church-buildings/connectivity/legal-considerations

The main legal considerations for most telecoms installations are the obtaining of a faculty from your diocese in order to lawfully proceed with the project, and the signing of a licence agreement with a trusted supplier. These and related topics are dealt with here.
