Help those in need

'If you help the poor, you are lending to the Lord.' Proverbs 19:17 NLT

Les Goldberg's friends thought he was crazy when he cashed in his personal investments to buy a home to lease for the homeless. A retired engineer, Les felt it was the only decision he could make. He spends a minimum of one hour each day with his homeless friends and has helped renovate several properties on their behalf. In all his efforts, Goldberg never regarded the homeless as irresponsible or unreliable; he only saw them as people. Hurting people! He figured the house he purchased could be used as both a temporary shelter and a drop-in centre - a place where homeless people might pick up post, make phone calls, follow up job leads and receive donated commodities. Four homeless men live at the house, paying minimal rent to offset expenses. House rules are strict: no alcohol, no drugs, no loitering. Goldberg has never been rich. For twenty years he ran his own small business designing and installing fire sprinklers. He simply was a man who saw an unmet need and found a way to help meet it.

Mother Teresa said: 'We cannot all do great things, but we can all do small things with great love.' Jesus put it this way: 'If you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of my followers, you will surely be rewarded' (Matthew 10:42 NLT).

As you go through your day, keep your heart open and ask God to make you a solution to someone else's problem. When you do, 'You will surely be rewarded.'

Memorise: Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Psalm 37:3

Read: Genesis 26:1-14 Open Heavens 8 September 2026

1 And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines unto Gerar.

2 And the Lord appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of:

3 Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father;

4 And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;

5 Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.

6 And Isaac dwelt in Gerar:

7 And the men of the place asked him of his wife; and he said, She is my sister: for he feared to say, She is my wife; lest, said he, the men of the place should kill me for Rebekah; because she was fair to look upon.

8 And it came to pass, when he had been there a long time, that Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out at a window, and saw, and, behold, Isaac was sporting with Rebekah his wife.

9 And Abimelech called Isaac, and said, Behold, of a surety she is thy wife; and how saidst thou, She is my sister? And Isaac said unto him, Because I said, Lest I die for her.

10 And Abimelech said, What is this thou hast done unto us? one of the people might lightly have lien with thy wife, and thou shouldest have brought guiltiness upon us.

11 And Abimelech charged all his people, saying, He that toucheth this man or his wife shall surely be put to death.

12 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the Lord blessed him.

13 And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great:

14 For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him.

Open Heavens 8 September 2026
Message: – Open Heavens 8 September 2026 Tuesday Daily Devotional

Steady promotion happens when, if nothing goes wrong, and a fellow works diligently, he or she progresses to the next stage. After that, the fellow moves on to the next stage and continues to progress steadily. A great example of steady promotion can be seen in the case of Isaac in our Bible reading for today. There was a famine in the land, and things were really difficult. However, he obeyed God’s instruction not to relocate, sowed in the land, and reaped a hundredfold return. He did not stop there; rather, he kept sowing and reaping until he waxed great. Things continued to progress steadily for him until he attained a very great height.

Steady promotions are good because they represent a slow but steady ascent. Those who experience steady promotion move predictably from point A to B, to C, and then to point D. The challenge with steady promotion, however, is that it only increases by addition, while extraordinary promotion increases by multiplication. For example, when you keep adding 2 and 2, you will need to add a lot of 2s before you can get to 2,000, while on the other hand, if you were multiplying, you would arrive at 2,000 a lot faster.

God desires for His children to progress from the realm of ‘steady promotion’ to that of ‘extraordinary promotion’ where they will experience exponential liftings that will cause people to marvel. For example, Joshua experienced steady promotion from serving as a servant to Moses (Exodus 33:11) to becoming a spy for Israel (Numbers 13:1-16). Later on, he experienced an extraordinary promotion and became Moses’ appointed successor (Numbers 27:18-21) before eventually becoming the Commander of Israel (Joshua 1).

God does not just want you to have life; He wants you to have it abundantly (John 10:10). He wants you to have much more than you currently do, and He wants to make you a thousand times more than you currently are (Deuteronomy 1:11). When something jumps from one to one thousand, it is no longer operating under natural laws of progression; rather, it is operating by exponential or supernatural laws. This is the pattern that God wants your promotion to follow.

Beloved, my prayer for you is that you will begin to experience rapid and accelerated extraordinary promotions in all areas of your life, starting from today, in Jesus’ name.

Key Point – Open Heavens 8 September 2026

Steady promotions are good, but God desires that you also experience extraordinary promotions.

Hymn: I’m Pressing On the Upward Way

Verse 1:I’m pressing on the upward way,

New heights I’m gaining every day;

Still praying as I onward bound,

“Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.”

Chorus:Lord, lift me up and let me stand,

By faith on Heaven’s tableland;

A higher plane than I have found,

Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.

Verse 2:My heart has no desire to stay

Where doubts arise and fears dismay;

Though some may dwell where these abound,

My prayer, my aim, is higher ground.

(Chorus)

Verse 3:Beyond the mist I fain would rise,

To rest beneath unclouded skies,

Above earth’s turmoil and its strife,

To know more fully Christ, the Life.

(Chorus)

Verse 4:I want to scale the utmost height,

And catch a gleam of glory bright;

But still I’ll pray till heaven I’ve found,

“Lord, lead me on to higher ground.”

(Chorus)

Your God-given purpose

'For I know the plans I have for you.' Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

Nothing is more gratifying than knowing one's purpose - even when opposition seems unbearable and other distractions threaten to overshadow it. Often when people say they don't have a passion for anything, they mean they don't have faith to believe they could actually do what they really desire in their hearts.

Jesus refused to let anyone pull him away from his purpose. 'Someone in the crowd said to him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me." Jesus replied, "Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you"' (Luke 12:13-14 NIV)? In essence, Jesus was saying, 'I'm not about to get distracted by conducting an arbitration hearing between you two. That's not part of my purpose for being here on earth.' Even up to the day that Jesus gave his life on the cross, there were many sick people needing healing and a myriad of other impossible situations that needed his attention. He knew that through the power of his death and resurrection, all could be addressed.

So, despite unresolved problems, Jesus confidently gave his heavenly Father this report on his ministry: 'I brought glory to you here on earth by completing the work you gave me to do' (John 17:4 NLT). He refused to let his disciples, Satan, well-meaning family members, needy people or anyone else distract him from his purpose. And you must learn to do that too. This raises the question: can you state your God-given purpose in a single sentence? Are you pursuing it?

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Ezekiel 41-43

Open Heavens 7 August 2026
MESSAGE: –

When I was studying for my Master’s degree, there was a young man who was working in a professor’s office as a messenger. In those days, there were no mobile phones, so whenever someone called the office phone to speak with the professor, the boy would answer the phone first before taking it to the professor. Most times, however, whenever he answered the phone, the people on the other end of the call would say, “Prof,” thinking it was the professor who had answered. After some time, the boy began to call himself ‘Prof,’ and people joined in, jokingly calling him the same. One day, he said to himself, “Hey, I know that people jokingly call me Prof, but I can really become a professor.” By the time I left the University of Lagos as a lecturer, he was already studying for his PhD.

Today’s Bible reading says that God can lift beggars from the dunghill and sit them among princes. I can relate to this because I had no shoes for the first 18 years of my life, yet by God’s special grace, I have met many heads of state and engaged in lengthy conversations with them. The same God who promoted me can also promote you, if you surrender all to Him.

Some people experience what can be called ‘normal’ promotions in life. A good example of this is when people make steady progress in their careers. They might get salary increases once every year, and as they work hard, they get promoted once every five years. While this is good, I know that God has greater plans for His children. In John 10:10, Jesus said that He came to the earth that we might have life and have it more abundantly. God wants you to enjoy promotion that is beyond normal; He wants you to enjoy supernatural promotion. David was someone who experienced supernatural promotion. One day, he was on the field tending his father’s sheep, and the next day, the Ultimate Promoter arranged for him to be anointed as a king (1 Samuel 16:11-13).

Beloved, the key to experiencing supernatural promotion is to humble yourself before God and live in total obedience to Him. When you do this, He will exalt you in due time and crown your life with His glory (1 Peter 5:6). pray that the Ultimate Promoter will give you a supernatural promotion before the end of this year, in Jesus’ name.

Prayer Point – Open Heavens 7 September 2026

Father, I ask for supernatural promotion in every area of my life, in Jesus’ name.

Hymn 27: What A Friend We Have In Jesus

What a friend we have in Jesus,

all our sins and griefs to bear!

What a privilege to carry

everything to God in prayer!

O what peace we often forfeit,

O what needless pain we bear,

all because we do not carry

everything to God in prayer!

2 Have we trials and temptations?

Is there trouble anywhere?

We should never be discouraged;

take it to the Lord in prayer!

Can we find a friend so faithful

who will all our sorrows share?

Jesus knows our every weakness;

take it to the Lord in prayer!

3 Are we weak and heavy laden,

cumbered with a load of care?

Precious Savior, still our refuge–

take it to the Lord in prayer!

Do your friends despise, forsake you?

Take it to the Lord in prayer!

In his arms he’ll take and shield you;

you will find a solace there.

3. Father, give me the wisdom to know when to rest and to take regular scheduled breaks. Let me not sabotage my own health and destiny through overwork, in Jesus’ name.

Do more than expected

'If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two.' Matthew 5:48 NIV

Jesus said, 'Give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over' (Luke 6:38 NKJV). Notice, he didn't say, 'Only give to those who can give back to you.' John Bunyan, author of The Pilgrim's Progress, said, 'You haven't lived today until you've done something for someone who can never repay you.'

In the days of Jesus, a Roman soldier could legally force a Jewish civilian to carry his heavy backpack for up to a mile. That was his right, and you refused to do so at your peril. So to walk the first mile was to do only what was required. Then Jesus came along and said, 'If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two' (Matthew 5:41 NIV). Why? Because 'extra-mile service' gives you an opportunity to impact the lives of others. A person with an extra-mile attitude is someone who cares more than others think is wise, risks more than others think is safe, dreams more than others think is practical, believes more than others think is possible, and gives more than others think is necessary.

Here's how Jesus bottom-lines it: 'If you love only the people who love you, you will get no reward. Even the tax collectors do that. And if you are nice only to your friends, you are no better than other people. Even those who don't know God are nice to their friends. So you must be perfect, just as your Father in Heaven is perfect' (Matthew 5:46-48 NCV). So always do more than is expected.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Ezekiel 39-40

MESSAGE: – Open Heavens 6 September 2026 Sunday Daily Devotional

Today’s memory verse says that there is nothing new under the sun. This means that if you are trying to achieve something, someone else has achieved the same thing or something similar before. Therefore, if you study that person and follow the principles the fellow lived by and the steps he or she took, you should also achieve the same result. This is why you must make it a habit to learn from the people you admire and seek to emulate. When you study their lifestyles and actions and add your knowledge and experience to that, you will be positioned to achieve even greater things than they did.

I always tell my children who want to be like me, “While everyone is focusing on the glory, pay attention to the story.” God is not a respecter of persons (Acts 10:34); whatever He has done for me, He is ready to do for anyone if they follow the principles I follow. When I became a Christian, I devoted quality time to studying the lives of the people who inspired me in the Bible, as I wanted to emulate them. For example, I spent three years studying Elijah. I loved Elijah because he was a man who could say a short prayer, and fire would fall. I loved his audacity and saw that the principles that powered his life were a devoted prayer altar and an unwavering focus on his God- given assignment. After studying Elijah for three years, I discovered Elisha, a man who possessed a double portion of Elijah’s spirit, and I shifted my focus to studying him for several years as well. I have also studied Paul because he was a scholar (Acts 22:3), and he was mightily anointed. Studying the lives of these men has shown me what I must do to remain eternally relevant in God’s plan.

Beloved, God has put numerous men and women in His Word for you to study and emulate. Additionally, there are also people you can learn from in the present and in recent history. Don’t deprive yourself of the wealth of knowledge and wisdom you can glean from studying others. Learn from their successes and even their failures and mistake so you can know how to avoid the same or similar errors. I pray that the Almighty God will point you towards great men and women you can learn from who will help you to fulfil your glorious destiny in Him, in Jesus’ name.

Let the fire and cloudy pillar

lead me all my journey through.

Strong Deliverer, strong Deliverer,

3 When I tread the verge of Jordan,

Wisdom from above

'The wisdom from above is first of all pure.' James 3:17 NLT

The Bible says that the wisdom that comes from this world is 'earthly, unspiritual, demonic', because it comes from 'envy and selfish ambition' and 'disorder and every evil practice' (James 3:15-16 NIV). The wisdom you need comes from a different source: 'The wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favouritism and is always sincere' (James 3:17 NLT).

People today have access to more knowledge than at any time in history. Yet wisdom seems practically non-existent. Paul's words to the Corinthian church could well be addressed to us: 'Is there not a wise man among you' (see 1 Corinthians 6:5 NKJV)? There's a stark difference between knowledge and wisdom. Knowledge is the accumulation of facts and information. Anyone can accumulate facts. Our problem is our lack of wisdom; we aren't able to take the facts we've learned and put them into practice in real-life situations and at points of need.

If we're to put our faith into action, we'll need 'the wisdom from above'. As couples, we need it to build strong marriages (see 1 Peter 3:7). As parents, we need it for leading our children in the way they should go (see Proverbs 22:6). As Christian businesspeople, we need it to succeed in the marketplace (see Isaiah 48:17). If you're wise, you'll pray: 'Lord, I invite you to work with me, to work in me, to work through me, and to work for me.' That's a prayer he will answer.

3 And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.

4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.

5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.

6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.

7 And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.

8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.

Open Heavens 5 September 2026
MESSAGE: – Open Heavens 5 September 2026 Saturday Daily Devotional

I always tell my children that holiness is doing whatever God says wholeheartedly and promptly. When He says, “Sit down, I respond immediately, “Yes, Lord.” When He says, “Stand,” my response is, “Yes, Lord.” When He says, “Eat,” I do not hesitate before saying, “Yes, Lord,” and when He says, “Fast,” my response is still “Yes, Lord”, and I’ll start immediately.

Just do what God asks wholeheartedly and promptly, then leave the rest to Him-that is all holiness is. It is an aberration for a person to be holy and die in poverty. That is why I do not focus on preaching about prosperity; instead, Il focus on preaching about holiness.

When you are truly holy, there will be times when God will give you instructions that will lead to receiving blessings from Him if you obey Him. However, anyone who decides to argue with God at such times will miss out on the blessing He has prepared for him or her. That is why David said in Psalm 37:25:

I have been young and now am old; Yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

In today’s Bible reading, Jesus needed a boat to preach to the multitude of people who had gathered, as they wanted to hear the word of God from Him. He got into Peter’s boat and asked him to move a little away from the land. Peter’s response was, “Yes, Lord.” After the Lord finished His sermon, He turned to Peter and asked him to launch out into the deep. For lending his boat to the Lord, God wanted to reward Peter, and the reward came in a massive way.

Before Jesus came on the scene, Peter was battling with failure and frustration; he had toiled all night and caught nothing. However, the moment he told Jesus ‘yes’ and released his boat to the Lord, he put himself in position for a windfall of God’s blessing. He caught so many fishes that his net broke. His blessing was so great that his neighbors partook in it; both Peter’s ship and his neighbors’ were so filled with fishes that they began to sink.

Beloved, you cannot live a life of holiness, which can be seen through your obedience to God, and be frustrated or stranded. When you obey God in everything, He will respond by blessing you in every area of your life.

Hymn 30: When We Walk With The Lord

1 When we walk with the Lord

in the light of his word,

what a glory he sheds on our way!

While we do his good will,

he abides with us still,

and with all who will trust and obey.

Refrain:

Trust and obey, for there’s no other way

to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2 Not a burden we bear,

not a sorrow we share,

but our toil he doth richly repay;

not a grief or a loss,

not a frown or a cross,

but is blest if we trust and obey.

3 But we never can prove

the delights of his love

until all on the altar we lay;

for the favor he shows,

for the joy he bestows,

are for them who will trust and obey.

4 Then in fellowship sweet

we will sit at his feet,

or we’ll walk by his side in the way;

what he says we will do,

where he sends we will go;

never fear, only trust and obey.

2. Lord, I ask for mercy for every time I have delayed in obeying Your instructions, argued with Your commands, or failed to trust Your word, in Jesus’ name.

3. Father, give me the grace to obey Your instructions wholeheartedly and promptly, without hesitation or doubt, just as Peter obeyed You at Your word, in Jesus’ name.

4. Lord, help me to live a life of holiness that is evident in my obedience to You. Let me not pick and choose which of Your commands to follow, but let me obey You in all things, in Jesus’ name.

5. Father, I pray that as I obey You, You will bless me in every area of my life—financially, spiritually, physically, and relationally, in Jesus’ name.

6. Lord, I release my resources, my time, and my talents to You, just as Peter released his boat. Use them for Your glory, and let me receive the reward of Your blessing, in Jesus’ name.

7. Father, I trust You even when Your instructions seem impossible or unreasonable. Help me to launch out into the deep at Your word, knowing that You will bring the increase, in Jesus’ name.

8. Lord, I pray for a Peter-like encounter with You. When I obey Your word, let my net break with the abundance of blessing You bring into my life, in Jesus’ name.

9. Father, help me to be a blessing to others through my obedience. Just as Peter’s neighbors partook of his blessing, let my obedience bring blessings to those around me, in Jesus’ name.

10. My personal prayer point: (Mention specific areas where you need to obey God more promptly and wholeheartedly, and ask for grace to trust and obey).

11. Thank You, Father, for the assurance that when I am holy and obedient, You will respond with blessings. I receive Your grace to walk in holiness and experience Your divine provision, in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
