MESSAGE
I recall a time when my father was sitting in an armchair in front of the house, taking in the fresh air. I was also outside, playing football. Suddenly, I kicked the ball high, and it landed on the roof of the house. The roof of the house was thatched, so when the ball landed, it just stayed there. I then went to get a long stick to dislodge the ball from the roof. However, each time I tried to bring the ball down, it kept moving back, and I couldn't see it because I was still a young boy with a small stature. After going at it for a while, I got tired. Then, I went to my father and said, "Daddy, please help me; my ball is on the roof." My father then said, "You saw me sitting here, but you thought you could do it on your own". Then, he got up and, in one attempt, he brought the ball down.

Beloved, if you do things your own way, God will not interfere in your matters. He doesn't force Himself on people; He only helps those who genuinely need His help and ask for it. The popular saying that heaven helps those who help themselves doesn't apply to God. It is a worldly slogan because God only helps those who are genuinely in need arnd humbly approach Him for help. Psalm 34:6 says:

This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.

Someone who is poor is genuinely in need of something. Such a person acknowledges God as the only One who can help him or her. In Revelation 3:14-17, the Lord scolded the Laodicean church for calling themselves rich when, indeed, they were poor, wretched, and blind. Those who think they can do it all by themselves are living in deceit. God will fold His arms and watch them struggle, and until they cry to Him for help, they will keep running around in circles. When babies stretch out their arms, it means that they are ready to be carried.

Beloved, open your arms wide today, and let God carry you. Involve Him in all you do so that you will not struggle to do the things He can help you do with ease.

PRAYER POINT
Dear Lord, please take control of every area of my life and grant me ease in all that do.

Thrive in enemy territory (2)

'Resist the devil and he will flee from you.' James 4:7 NKJV

Before allowing his people to inhabit the Promised Land, God commanded all the males to be circumcised (see Joshua 5:2). Circumcision was first introduced by God to Abraham as 'a sign of the covenant between me and you' (Genesis 17:11 NKJV). The act of circumcision meant they were God's, set apart from the nations who didn't know God. During the wilderness wanderings, the Hebrews let this practice lapse. But before they began their new life in Canaan, God introduced it to them again as a condition for enjoying a covenant relationship with him.

What's the secret to surviving enemy territory? First, remember what God has done for you. Second, remember whose you are. The Hebrews did what God commanded - and God protected them and gave them spectacular victories: 'So it was, when all the kings of the Amorites who were on the west side of the Jordan, and all the kings of the Canaanites who were by the sea, heard that the Lord had dried up the waters of the Jordan...their heart melted; and there was no spirit in them any longer because of the children of Israel' (Joshua 5:1 NKJV).

The Israelites' devotion to God brought protection from God. And it still works that way. 'Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and he will draw near to you' (James 4:7-8 NKJV). This Scripture teaches that when you are surrendered to God, he gives you the power to overcome the world, the flesh and the devil.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Luke 7-8

MESSAGE: – Open Heavens 24 October 2026 Saturday Daily Devotional

There was a man who always faced setbacks every time he was close to having a breakthrough. Each time a breakthrough was about to happen in his life, something would truncate it. One day, he was informed that he had won a big contract and was instructed to collect his award letter in Abuja. He was so excited about this that he boarded a plane immediately and headed to Abuja. Unknown to him, the person in charge of the contract had changed his mind and given the contract to someone else. After receiving this news upon his arrival in Abuja, the man decided that he couldn’t bear it anymore.

He surrendered his life to Jesus, and I prayed for him. The Lord had mercy on him, broke the yoke of failure in his life, and from then on, he began to record one breakthrough after another.

Beloved, God wants you to live in victory in all areas of your life. He also wants you to move from one level of success to another. Proverbs 4:18 says, “But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.” While following Jesus doesn’t exempt you from challenges, God’s plan is not for you to live under the shadow of defeat and failure.

I once met a boy who consistently failed all his exams, despite his parents being professors. If he moved from a class of 30 pupils to a class of 35 pupils, his position would move from 30th to 35th; he just couldn’t help it. His parents got him the best private tutors, yet he continued to fail. One day, his parents brought him to me, and we prayed together. In the next examination he wrote, he came first among his peers. The teachers were shocked, so he was asked to retake the examination. Surprisingly, he scored even higher than he did in his first attempt. Since then, failure has been banished from his life.

Beloved, are you experiencing recurring failure? If you are already born again or if you surrender your life to Jesus right now, I have good news for you: the Lord is more than able to deliver you from the cycle of failure. Call on Him for help today, and He will deliver you. He will show you what you must do to start succeeding, and as you do it, you will never know failure again.

1. Father, I thank You for the victory You have given me through our Lord Jesus Christ. Thank You for the assurance that I am more than a conqueror through Him who loved me, and that no failure can hold me down, in Jesus’ name.

2. Lord, I ask for mercy for every time I have been trapped in a cycle of failure, allowed defeat to define my life, and forgotten that You have already given me the victory through Christ, in Jesus’ name.

3. Father, I break every yoke of failure and defeat in my life. Just as You broke the yoke of failure in the life of the man who kept facing setbacks, let every cycle of failure in my life be terminated today, in Jesus’ name.

4. Lord, I declare that I am no longer a victim of failure. I am more than a conqueror through Christ who loves me. No weapon of failure formed against me shall prosper, in Jesus’ name.

5. Father, I pray for everyone who is experiencing recurring failure in their academics, career, business, or ministry. Let the power of God break that cycle and turn their situation around for good, in Jesus’ name.

Thrive in enemy territory (1)

'I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you.' Joshua 5:9 NKJV

When Israel entered the Promised Land, there were thirty-one kings who had to be conquered. This meant they were living in enemy territory. God told Joshua to 'circumcise the sons of Israel' (Joshua 5:2 NKJV). When it was done, the Lord said, 'This day I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you' (Joshua 5:9 NKJV). The 'reproach of Egypt' was the humiliation of slavery they'd endured for four hundred years; now it was time to reclaim their birthright as God's chosen people. Circumcision, then, was a symbolic separation from the past and a declaration of a new identity: no longer a slave, but free.

What about your old temptations, lusts and shortcomings? He detached you from their power! It cannot be stated too often or too clearly - you are not the person you used to be! When Jesus died, you died. When Jesus was buried, you were buried. When Jesus rose from the dead, you rose with him. 'You put off...the old man' and 'put on the new' (Ephesians 4:22, 24 NKJV).

Satan is called 'the tempter' and 'the accuser'. When he comes against you in either role, tell him: 'I have been bought with a price, I belong to God' (see 1 Corinthians 6:20); 'I have not been given a spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind' (see 2 Timothy 1:7); 'I cannot be separated from the love of God' (see Romans 8:35); 'I can find grace and mercy in the time of need' (see Hebrews 4:16); and 'I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me' (Philippians 4:13 NKJV).

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Luke 5-6

MESSAGE: – Open Heavens 23 October 2026 Friday Daily Devotional

The Bible says that you should resist the devil, and he will flee from you James 4:7). Elijah is one character in the Bible who really exemplified this principle of resisting the devil. He stood against everyone who opposed God, including the king and all the prophets of Baal. However, when a woman, Jezebel, decided to go after him, he did not stand to resist her; rather, he fled. When the devil decides to termpt you with a member of the opposite s*x, don’t stand and fight; flee!

In 2 Timothy 2:22, the Bible says, “Flee youthful lusts.” Child of God, when it comes to s*xual temptation, don’t fight it; instead, run! I always warn my male children that if the devil comes against them, they should tell him to get lost in Jesus’ name. However, if a lady approaches then smiling seductively, they are the ones who should run. You must flee from lust, because you cannot win that battle by standing; you can only win it by fleeing. If you are a man and you find yourself being seduced by a lady, you must flee. It does not matter how anointed you are; run fast! The anointing does not turn the body to stone. Even though Samson was anointed and once single-handedly killed a thousand soldiers, he was overpowered by a woman, and this led to his untimely death.

To the ladies, when a man approaches you with words like, You look more radiant than the sun. Your smile is brighter than the brightness ofa million stars put together don’t be carried away by his flattery. He may be calling you sunshine, but when he finishes with you, you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between sunshine and sunset. The Bible says that a flatterer sets a net for his or her neighbour’s feet (Proverbs 29:5). My daughter, flee!

Even at my age, I am still running from every appearance of evil. This is because the closer you get to the finishing point of a race, the more careful you must be. The devil doesn’t relent in his schemes to bring people down because they are old; instead, he wants to put an end to all the great work God has done through them and tarnish their legacies. Beloved, do not toy with sin; flee all forms of lust! God did not tell you that His grace will be sufficient for you when it comes to lust, He asked you to flee!

1. Father, I thank You for the wisdom in Your word that teaches me to flee from lust and pursue righteousness. Thank You for the grace You have given me to overcome s*xual temptation by fleeing, in Jesus’ name.

2. Lord, I ask for mercy for every time I have stood to fight lust instead of fleeing, lingered in tempting situations, or allowed myself to be drawn away by my own desires, in Jesus’ name.

9. Father, even as I grow older in the faith, let me never become complacent about lust. Let me continue to flee from every appearance of evil, knowing that the closer I am to the finish line, the more careful I must be, in Jesus’ name.

Seek to please God!

'Our purpose is to please God, not people.' 1 Thessalonians 2:4 NLT

A young man studied violin under a world-renowned violinist and master teacher. He worked hard for several years perfecting his talent. The day finally came when he was called upon to give his first major public recital in a large city where both he and his teacher lived. Following each selection, which he performed with great skill and passion, the performer seemed uneasy about how to handle all the applause he was receiving. Even though he knew that those in the audience were musically astute and not likely to give such applause to a less than superior performance, the young man acted almost as if he couldn't hear the appreciation that was being showered upon him. At the close of the last number he performed, the applause was thunderous and numerous 'bravos' were shouted. The talented young violinist had his eyes glued, however, on only one spot. Finally, when an elderly man in the first row of the balcony smiled and nodded to him in approval, the young man relaxed and beamed with both relief and joy. His teacher had praised his work! The applause of thousands meant nothing to him until he had first won the approval of his master.

That was Paul's aim too, and it should be yours. 'For we speak as messengers approved by God to be entrusted with the Good News. Our purpose is to please God, not people. He alone examines the motives of our hearts' (1 Thessalonians 2:4 NLT).

So the word for today is this: in all things, seek to please God!

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Luke 3-4

MESSAGE: – Open Heavens 22 October 2026 Thursday Daily Devotional

There was a story of an eagle that a mother hen hatched. For years, the eagle behaved like a chicken scratching for worms and never soaring as an eagle should. That continued until one day, the eagle saw another eagle flying in the sky and was intrigued by the way it spread its wings and soared in the sky. Somehow, the eagle felt it could also do the same thing; so, it opened up its wings and began to fly. That was when the eagle realized that it was not a chicken, but an eagle that was born to soar.

Beloved, if you don’t recognize your identity in Christ, you will remain a slave to the things Jesus went to the cross to deliver you from. You will struggle for worms with other chickens when you should be soaring high in the sky and diving to get your meals without stress. Knowing your divine identity will empower you to overcome whatever struggles you face, as you will understand that Jesus has paid the price for you to be free. You cannot know who you are in God if you don’t spend time in His word. Your divine identity can only be revealed to you through God’s word. The more you spend time reading and studying God’s word, the more His light will shine upon your heart to show you who you are in Him.

Psalm 119:130 says that the entrance of God’s word gives light and understanding to the simple. It doesn’t matter your background or status; once you come to Christ, you have become royalty. Revelation 1:6 says that Jesus has made us kings and priests unto God and His Father. Today’s Bible reading also reveals that if you are a child of God, you are royalty.

Beloved, you are God’s chosen vessel and an ambassador for Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20). This means that there are things you cannot do, and one of them is to live in sin.

Today’s memory verse says that we should keep ourselves clean because we bear the vessels of the Lord. If you bear the vessel of the Lord, no unclean thing should be found in you. You must steer clear of anything that represents sin and unrighteousness. Princes should not be found naked in public. Sin makes people naked, and your aivine identity as a royal priesthood forbids this.

6. Lord, I commit to abstaining from fleshly lusts which war against my soul. As a chosen vessel and an ambassador for Christ, let me steer clear of everything that represents sin and unrighteousness, in Jesus’ name.

7. Father, I pray for every believer who is struggling with their identity in Christ. Open their eyes to see that they are no longer who they used to be—they are now the people of God, the ones who have obtained mercy, in Jesus’ name.

8. Lord, I pray for the grace to keep myself clean and holy, because I bear the vessels of the Lord. Let no unclean thing be found in me, and let my life be a reflection of Your holiness, in Jesus’ name.

9. Father, I receive the grace to walk in my divine identity as an ambassador for Christ. Let my words, actions, and lifestyle declare Your praises to the world, in Jesus’ name.

11. Thank You, Father, for making me royalty through Jesus Christ. I am no longer a slave, but a king and a priest unto You. I will rise and soar, and I will live a life that reflects my divine identity all the days of my life, in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

God is good, all the time

'Taste and see that the Lord is good.' Psalm 34:8 NKJV

There's an African folk tale about a king and his friend. In every circumstance, the king's friend had a saying: 'This is good.' One day they were out hunting. The friend loaded the fi***rm for the king, and he fired it. But it exploded, blowing off the king's thumb. As was his habit, the friend said, 'This is good,' to which the king replied, 'This is not good,' and had his friend thrown in prison.

A year later, the king was out hunting without his friend when he was captured by cannibals. The king was taken back to their village and tied at the stake. He thought to himself, 'This is not good.' But just before lighting the fire, one of the cannibals noticed that the king's thumb was missing. According to tribal tradition, they could never eat anyone who wasn't whole, so they untied the king and let him go. When the king realised that his missing thumb spared his life, he immediately thought of his friend whom he'd sent to prison. He said to his friend, 'You were right. It is good that my thumb was blown off. I'm sorry for sending you to jail. This is not good.' To which his friend said, 'No, this is good.' The king still didn't understand. 'What do you mean, this is good? I sent my best friend to jail for a year!' The friend insisted, 'This is good. If I hadn't been in jail, I would have been out hunting with you, and my thumb's not missing!'

So the word for today is: God is good - all the time.
