At our Harvest Service this morning we considered the River of Life, as seen in Ezekiel 47.1-12. We saw how it flowed from the temple, becoming deeper and deeper; and how it was teeming with fish as it reached the Dead Sea. The river enabled neighbouring trees to bear fruit, and their leaves were for healing.

Everyone took a fish assuring them that ‘God’s love sustains us’; and were invited to write a prayer on a footprint to go in the river. How deep were we prepared to go: ankle, knee, waist or were we prepared to swim in God’s love? Finally our prayers of intercession held onto stones as we remembered people and situations in need of God’s love, then lay them on the floor and covered them with the river.

Here at the foot of the cross Eggbert chose to pause, breathe and make space for God.

Breathe:
John 18.1 - 19.42

When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing near by, he said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.

Make space for God:
May the God who did not turn away from suffering hold your soul today. May you rest in the mystery, and wait in hope.
