Manchester City Centre Street Pastors

Manchester City Centre Street Pastors Manchester City Centre Street Pastors. Caring, listening and helping vulnerable people in our City Centre. Supported by many, including The Big Lottery. Why?

Street Pastors are trained volunteers from local churches who patrol the streets of cities, towns and villages across the UK. Started by Rev Les Isaac, director of the Ascension Trust in 2003 in one area of London, there are now teams in over 270 locations and over 12,000 volunteers have been trained. Street Pastors engage with people on the streets to care, listen and help. They work together wit

h local Police, Councils and other partners to ensure the welfare of people participating in the night-time economy. In Manchester Street Pastors began in 2004, patrolling in the Moss Side area. There are now teams in ten areas across Greater Manchester. One of these teams works in the City Centre where 100,000 people come every weekend to enjoy themselves. While most do so without any problems, a number suffer injury, or are victims of crime. Others simply need a bit of help to find their friends, or a taxi home, or someone to talk to. For all these and more, Street Pastors are there to serve and help. Because they follow someone who said: "Love your neighbour as you love yourself."

Nice to get a Like from a young woman we were with sometime after 2am on Saturday. Not in a good way at the time, separated from friends, but we got her back in touch and stayed until someone came for her. The Like means we know you're OK, which is important to us, so thank you!

All the Street Pastor projects in Greater Manchester are exhibiting together at the Christian Resource Exhibition in Manchester on March 13-14 (http://creonline.co.uk). We hope to make contact with many churches and leaders and be able to recruit more volunteers for our teams. CRE will draw in people not just from across GM but also from the wider surrounding area including Merseyside, Yorkshire, Cheshire and Cumbria. We would like to invite other NW SPIs to send us info that we can put on our stand. Thanks. And if it's something you do, please pray that through our presence at CRE many will be called to serve as Street Pastors.

We've been on TV! Paul K was interviewed for a BBC North West Tonight piece about “Mad Friday”. We'll have a team out in the thick of it later tonight. If you see us say hi.

We've been sharing about Street Pastors 10 projects across Gtr Mcr at a huge prayer for Greater Manchester event. Expect blessing to follow...! May it include many more volunteers - opportunities are waiting.

We're still here, still patrolling in the city centre, and rejoicing in 3 big donations that have well and truly seen off our financial crisis in the summer (but it was close!) Also, big opportunities to provide patrols in more areas of Manchester. All good. BUT... we desperately need more volunteers. The city is calling, can the Church respond?
