We have so much to thank you for, Lord Jesus! You have given us new life, a life that is free from the guilt of our failures and our sin; a life that takes away the fear of death with its promise of eternal life with you. And a life in which we have a new relationship with you, where we know you are present with us in every circumstance and situation we find ourselves in, together with the guidance of your Holy Spirit and the strength we need to meet all the challenges each day brings. To say ‘thank you’ seems such an inadequate response, but when we say it with all our hearts and it becomes a springboard for our seeking to live in your way, then it becomes a song of praise and worship: ‘Great is the Lord!’

Loving God, you are there in every part of our lives, always faithful, always working for our good. Sometimes we don’t see this, Lord, or recognise your presence because we are so immersed in our own concerns that, without meaning to, we shut you out, and the consequence of this is often that our faith in you grows weak. And yet when things go wrong and we cry out to you, we discover that, though we have largely left you out of our lives, you haven’t abandoned us or lost interest in us! You truly are altogether good, Lord God! Help us to put our trust in you, to rely on your guidance, and to include you in every part of our daily lives.

All of us have anchors of one sort or another in our lives, those things that give us a sense of security, those people we know we can always turn to, those systems we can fall back on. It may be family, our job, our insurance policies or even our savings, but whatever it is, while those things, those people, can often give us a measure of back-up in certain circumstances, none of them is foolproof, and all of them are prone to failure. It is only you, Lord God, who can give us that inner security and safety that we all need, especially in times of difficulty, in those ‘storms of life’ that can come upon us when we least expect it, and often when we are less able to cope with them. If that is where you are today, know for certain that God is with you, allow His arms of love to hold you, for God is faithful and will never let you down.

The Chairs Nominations Committee have met and prepared the paperwork needed for a new District Chair to be appointed from September 2027. Please keep all involved in your prayers at this time as we get ready to submit the advertisement for this role.

Gracious and loving God, we thank you for the North West England District, its mission and ministry since its beginning, and the people called Methodists. We give thanks for the wealth of volunteers and staff whose dedication sustains our work, recognising that every single person matters and plays a vital part in who we are.

Guide us as we appoint a new District Chair to serve your people. Give wisdom and discernment to all who share in this decision, and help us to listen for your voice with open hearts.

We pray for the person you are preparing: strengthen them in faith, fill them with compassion and courage, and equip them to speak your word, care for your people and lead with humility and grace.

As a District may this appointment bring hope, unity and renewed vision to our churches and communities.

Lord God, you speak and make yourself known to us in so many different ways, but often we tend to look for the more obvious - a more dramatic experience maybe, or perhaps for it to be in particular places, or at particular times. And because of this we may miss hearing you giving us guidance or encouragement or to a task or role you are calling us to fulfil. Help us to remember that you are ever-present in our lives, in the ordinary, everyday as much as in those times set apart for you. So today may we be attentive to your voice, and especially to listen for you in the unlikely and the unexpected, for, with you, all of it is ‘holy ground’.

This Prisons Week, we are reminded that God’s invitation is extended to everyone, without exception.

We pray for all those affected by prisons and the criminal justice system:
🔹 people in prison and those leaving prison
🔹 victims of crime and their communities
🔹 families affected by imprisonment
🔹 prison and probation staff, chaplains and volunteers
🔹 those working in courts, policing and the wider justice system.

Jesus calls us to look beyond labels and circumstances, recognising the dignity and worth of every person. His love reaches us wherever we are and invites us towards hope, healing, forgiveness and new life.

This week, may we not only pray, but ask how we can respond to that invitation — through compassion, justice, mercy and practical action.

Lord, help us to see every person as you see them, and to be people who offer welcome, hope and a new beginning. Amen.

Kindness, Lord God. It’s not one of those attributes that we usually mention when describing you – power, glory, holiness, faithfulness, forgiveness, love – yes, these readily trip off our tongue, but kindness? And yet when we think about it, many of the ways we usually describe you are about ‘doing’, whereas ‘kindness’ is perhaps more about being – a way of looking at us, and seeing and affirming all our efforts even when we fail! And then when we consider your creation, it occurs to us that all of it was made with us in mind, so that we could flourish - and that kindness also includes giving us guidelines as to how we should live. So today, Lord, let’s raise our voices in praise of your kindness, and help us to extend that same kindness to those around us.
