Could you make use of these delicious small plums? They won't last much longer so please come and help yourself to some and check out the new path and pond at the same time. The apples won't be long either. It won't be too long until it's crumble pudding time of year!

On Sunday 26th July, St Jamesโ€™s Patronal Festival brought the congregation together in joyful celebration of the churchโ€™s patron saint. We were joined by the congregation of Holy Trinity. Led by the Reverend Becky Elliott and the Bishop of Worcester, the Right Reverend Hugh Nelson, the service combined stirring hymns, Scripture readings and prayer, reflecting upon St Jamesโ€™s immediate and faithful response to Christโ€™s call. The Bishopโ€™s sermon encouraged the congregation to follow that example through courageous witness, humble service and renewed commitment to the life and mission of the Church.

Following the service, the congregation processed through the churchyard, pausing to remember those who had worshipped and served at St Jamesโ€™s in generations past. Churchwardens, clergy and congregation then continued together towards the Jubilee Orchard, symbolically carrying the worship of the church building out into the wider community and the beauty of Godโ€™s creation.

In the orchard, each person received a scallop shell, the ancient emblem of St James and of Christian pilgrimage. The Bishop blessed the orchard, its wildlife, volunteers and the growing ministry of Orchard Church, praying that it might remain a place of welcome, friendship, reflection and faith. The celebration concluded with the congregation singing โ€œYou Shall Go Out with Joy,โ€ before sharing fellowship, refreshments and the Patronal Festival cake.

Work on the Pilgrim Path and Nayโ€™s Pond is now complete. It will take a little time for the landscape to settle and naturalise, but it is already clear that this peaceful corner of the church orchard is going to be beautiful.

Wild grasses and meadow flowers will be sown in early autumn, when warmer soil and winter frost will give the seeds the best chance of producing a colourful display next spring.
