Postive News Story!

Today a long forgotten and presumed destroyed Plaque was returned to George Lanceley’s descendants, for them to decide future placement in Malpas.

George was one of the first Christian Missionaries in the Congo and their family were members of the old Malpas Congregational church.

This Memorial was discovered at the back of a shed when sorting ready for closure and by chance local man John Clarke happened to mention his significant relative - George Lanceley.

So after many years having thinking it lost and destroyed when Malpas Congregational Church was decommissioned, John’s family are now looking for somewhere appropriate for George’s Memorial.

As a local of Malpas you may also make the link from George Lanceley to Lanceley Court off Well Street.

Goodbye from Malpas Community Church team. Last Members standing.

There has been a non conformist Church here since 1862. The current building replacing the old chapel 30 years ago. We are all very sad to say goodbye.

Pictured here is little Penny, Marie’s Grand Daughter who has been helping move everything out ready to close the building.

If you would still like to come along to lively family services, you will find us at Crewe by Farndon Methodist Church on a Sunday morning.

It was the last session of Buzz About Playgroup Community Church today.

There has been a church playgroup here for the past 20 years, and seen many local families through the early stages of parenthood and allowed them to find support, fun and friendship at our sessions.

It is with great sadness that we leave our much loved setting at Malpas Community Church and will now be moving over to Malpas Youth Centre in June 2025.
Here are the Class of 2025!

Neatly trimmed lawns have been the hallmark of our volunteer gardeners Alison and Bill Hamilton.
We are so grateful for the hours they have given over to making our grounds beautiful.
With the imminent closure of the church, Bill and Alison will be hanging up their gardening gloves managing the grounds of the church building - however they will be continuing to maintain the small church graveyard that so many locals walking through as a shortcut!
We thank them for their dedication and service and wish them well as they continue their Community Gardening Venture at Malpas Youth Centre.

A reflective and poignant final rehearsal for us last night at Malpas Community Church.

One Achord has been an active local ladies choir for over 50 years, meeting weekly and performing at the church for over 20 years!
We’d like to thank the church community for hosting us and so many others and are very sad to see it close, it’s been such an incredible community resource over the years 😢

One Achord is a wonderful, supportive, kind and fun group of people, joined in a joyful love of singing. We’re continuing with next Tuesday’s rehearsal at Alport Primary School and always welcome new members to join us on our onwards journey ❤️🎶🌟

As we are getting ready for the closure of Malpas Community Church, we have been looking for new homes for a lot of items from the building.
Today we bid farewell to our Communion Table and Lectern, as they now have a new home within our village at St Oswald’s.
We are glad they are still part of our community, and I believe St Oswald’s will be organising a special service of rededication in due course.

The Reverend Murray George says the decision to vacate the buildings was made "very reluctantly".

I am writing with important news about the future of Malpas Community Church.

With deep sadness we announce that Malpas Community Church will soon close its doors. The church congregation has been dwindling for many years now and are now at the point of an unviable congregation.

This means that the URC will now be selling the building. This will have a large impact on the community as so many local people hire the building for groups. Hall Hire will now cease from 23rd May 2025.

Group Hirers have been aware for several weeks of the situation and you may have already been contacted with new arrangements going forward for groups.

There has been a non-conformist Church serving the Malpas Area since the 1800’s, times are a changing and too many local chapels are now falling empty.

A closing service will be announced shortly.
