Glimpses from Today's Sponsored Walk
We had a wonderful day today for our sponsored walk. After several days of unusually hot weather, the conditions could not have been better. The sunshine remained pleasant rather than oppressive, providing ideal walking weather and allowing us to enjoy the Wiltshire countryside at its very best.
We were around 35 of us in total who made it to Norton Church. About 25 completed the four-mile outward journey, while around ten brave souls continued on the full eight-mile round trip back to Malmesbury.
Among the youngest participants were Philippa and Stephen's two grandchildren, who joined part of the route on their skates. They may have covered only a quarter of the distance, but they certainly made the rest of us wonder whether wheels might have been a good idea! We were also accompanied by two enthusiastic dogs, who seemed convinced that the walk had been organised entirely for their benefit.
A particular word of thanks goes to the churchwardens and all those at All Saints Church, Norton, who kindly welcomed us and made it possible for us to use the church. We were delighted to gather there for Midday Prayer, during which we prayed for our whole parish community and for the success of our parish hall project.
We also remembered in prayer the Badeni family, and we prayed for the repose of the souls of some of our parishioners who are buried there, especially Count and Countess Badeni, and Jack and Berney Quirke.
Thank you to everyone who walked, sponsored, encouraged, organised, prayed, or supported the event in any way. With donations still coming in, the walk is now close to raising £3,000 on its own.
If you have not yet had the opportunity to sponsor the walk and would still like to do so, donations can still be made through our GoFundMe page: https://www.gofundme.com/f/sponsored-walk-to-all-saints-church-norton
Our special thanks go to Gabrielle, Martin and the Fundraising Team, who so wonderfully looked after our lunch and oversaw the many practical arrangements that helped make the day run so smoothly.
