Glimpses from Today's Sponsored Walk

We had a wonderful day today for our sponsored walk. After several days of unusually hot weather, the conditions could not have been better. The sunshine remained pleasant rather than oppressive, providing ideal walking weather and allowing us to enjoy the Wiltshire countryside at its very best.

We were around 35 of us in total who made it to Norton Church. About 25 completed the four-mile outward journey, while around ten brave souls continued on the full eight-mile round trip back to Malmesbury.
Among the youngest participants were Philippa and Stephen's two grandchildren, who joined part of the route on their skates. They may have covered only a quarter of the distance, but they certainly made the rest of us wonder whether wheels might have been a good idea! We were also accompanied by two enthusiastic dogs, who seemed convinced that the walk had been organised entirely for their benefit.

A particular word of thanks goes to the churchwardens and all those at All Saints Church, Norton, who kindly welcomed us and made it possible for us to use the church. We were delighted to gather there for Midday Prayer, during which we prayed for our whole parish community and for the success of our parish hall project.

We also remembered in prayer the Badeni family, and we prayed for the repose of the souls of some of our parishioners who are buried there, especially Count and Countess Badeni, and Jack and Berney Quirke.

Thank you to everyone who walked, sponsored, encouraged, organised, prayed, or supported the event in any way. With donations still coming in, the walk is now close to raising £3,000 on its own.

If you have not yet had the opportunity to sponsor the walk and would still like to do so, donations can still be made through our GoFundMe page: https://www.gofundme.com/f/sponsored-walk-to-all-saints-church-norton

Our special thanks go to Gabrielle, Martin and the Fundraising Team, who so wonderfully looked after our lunch and oversaw the many practical arrangements that helped make the day run so smoothly.

All set for the Sponsored Walk

We are ready for our Sponsored Walk from St Aldhelm’s! A cheerful group of the “young at heart” are setting off to walk the four miles — and we are hoping that at least a few brave souls may even join us for the return journey from Norton (depending, of course, on how the knees and hips are behaving by then!).

A huge thank you for all your support and generosity so far. Through GoFundMe we have already raised around £… and a further £400 through other donations. Every contribution, big or small, is helping us move closer towards our Parish Hall project.

If you are able to support the walk, we would be very grateful. Please do also share the appeal with your family and friends, the more people who hear about it, the more help we can gather for the parish.

Sponsored Walk by Fr Thomas

On Saturday 30th May, I’ll be setting off from St Aldhelm’s Church on a modest 8-mile sponsored walk (4 miles there and 4 miles back!) to All Saints Church, Norton.

You are very warmly invited to join in, whether you’re feeling energetic and fancy the full stretch, or would prefer to join for the last mile… or even the last few metres.

The sponsored walk will start at 9.30am from St Aldhelm's Church, Malmesbury. We aim to gather at the All Saints church, Norton for 11:30am, where we’ll pause for Midday Prayer together. After that, we’ll make our way to the Vine Tree for a light lunch, good company, and—most likely—a well-earned sit down. From there, you are free to head off at your leisure.

This walk is part of our parish hall fundraising, which, thanks to your extraordinary generosity, we are now bringing towards its final stretch. Truly, you have supported this in so many ways already, and it has been a real witness to the life of our parish.
If you feel able to contribute through this walk, in whatever way, it would be received with sincere gratitude. And if not, your presence, prayers, and companionship are just as valuable.

And one small extra favour: please do feel free to share this invitation, and perhaps mention that you are taking part too, whether for the full walk or just a part of it. In this way, we can create a gentle ripple effect, inviting your own friends and supporters to be involved through you. They are welcome to sponsor you directly, and you can then add or transfer that amount to the main fundraising page so it contributes to the overall total. The aim is simply to raise as much as we can as we approach the final stretch of our fundraising. Some may wish to walk, others may prefer to sponsor, and every contribution, however small, truly makes a difference.

We have set this up so that you can easily share it with your friends, family, and wider circles through social media, helping us reach beyond the parish community. Unlike the Dona machine, which is limited to use within the parish, this allows the appeal to be seen and supported more widely.

You will also find a QR code on the poster below, which will take you directly to the same page. Please do share it as widely as you feel able, every bit of support makes a real difference.

We are mindful that some of you have kindly already promised Gabrielle your sponsorship. You are very welcome to make your donation through this page, or to give it to her directly in whatever way is most convenient. In either case, all contributions will be added to the overall total. Thank you very much for your generosity and support.
