HAPPY 71ST BIRTHDAY, POPE LEO!

On September 14, we celebrate the 71st birthday of our Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV.

Born on September 14, 1955, in Chicago, Illinois, Robert Francis Prevost became the 267th pope of the Catholic Church when he was elected on May 8, 2025.

As we celebrate his birthday, let us thank God for the gift of his pastoral ministry and pray that the Lord may continue to grant him wisdom, strength, and good health as he shepherds the Church and serves the People of God.

May the Lord bless and keep our Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, and guide him always in his ministry as the Successor of St. Peter.

Archbishop Mark has just issued the following statement in response to the defeat of the Assisted Su***de Bill:

“It is a good day for democracy and for the dignity of human life to see the defeat of this Bill in the House of Commons. I want to thank all those who wrote to their MP’s and who advocated for the weakest and most vulnerable in our society. We must continue to seek excellent palliative care which is broad and consistent across our nations, so that no person is made to feel a burden and all those facing the end of their lives can feel supported, loved and respected.”

On September 8, the Church celebrates the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Here are five simple and meaningful gifts you can offer Our Lady on her birthday:

Pray the Rosary
Meditate on the Joyful Mysteries, or pray all twenty mysteries, contemplating the life of Jesus through Mary’s eyes.

Offer Fresh Flowers
Place a bouquet before a Marian statue at church or create a small home shrine with roses, lilies, or other flowers associated with Our Lady.

Support a Pro-Life Cause
In honor of Mary’s “yes,” give time, talent, or treasure to a pregnancy center or pro-life organization.

Begin or Renew Your Marian Consecration
Entrust yourself more fully to Jesus through Mary, asking her to present your prayers to her Son.

Share a Little Feast at Home
Gather family or friends for a simple meal, cake, or dessert in Mary’s honor. Light a candle, say a prayer together, and celebrate her birthday with joy and gratitude.

Any of these gestures, offered with love, can make Our Lady’s feast day a grace-filled occasion.

Happy birthday, Mama Mary!

Between them, these four members represent over sixty years of quiet, practical service — to conferences, to districts, and to the people who needed them. It is service of this kind that Archbishop Mark points to in Loving Service, one of the four pillars of his vision for the Archdiocese.
