Yesterday it was announced that the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill will return to parliament in autumn. Today, Archbishop Mark issued the following statement:

"It is immensely disappointing that the Bill to legalise assisted su***de is being re-introduced to Parliament. It does nothing to uphold the dignity of every person, or encourage investment in good palliative care, which is the best way to accompany those facing challenging situations at the end of their lives."

Archbishop John Sherrington, Lead Bishop for Life Issues for the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales, has also issued a statement - a link to it can be found in the comments below 👇

O God, who in this wonderful Sacrament
have left us a memorial of your Passion,
grant us, we pray,
so to revere the sacred mysteries of your Body and Blood
that we may always experience in ourselves
the fruits of your redemption.
Who live and reign with God the Father
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever

Memories! Were you there???

Bore da, bawb.

It was on this day (2 June) in 1982 when Pope John Paul II became the first reigning Pope to visit Cymru.

The Welsh visit was part of a wider pastoral trip to Britain between 29 May and 6 June 1982. Parts of the tour were delayed due to him taking an impromptu walkabout in Cardiff - he must have really liked it!

The trip was fondly remembered for his use of Cymraeg, with the Pope declaring "Bendith Duw Arnoch - The blessing of God be on you" at Pontcanna Fields. He also conducted a youth service at Ninian Park, then the home of Cardiff City FC.
