A busy week for St. Peter’s, Trusthorpe!

Thanks to all those who supported us at the Bell Ringing service where bell ringers throughout the country celebrated Church bells and bell-ringers’ contribution to Church life. The national Bee Day was an informative service where we learnt interesting facts about these important creatures and how they help our eco-system. On Sunday, we visited St Clement’s Church, to take part in our new Archdeacon’s service for Pentecost. Tuesday was our traditional ‘Book of Common Prayer’ service with Rev. Peter and Canon Chris. We celebrated Saint Philip Neri, a Christian Missionary, known as the ‘Apostle of Joy’ and also Saint Augustine, the first archbishop of Canterbury in the year 597 and renowned as the ‘Apostle to the English’. Services are held at 9am on Sundays and 9.30am on Tuesdays.

The St. Peter’s Team get ready for their Tuesday Service to celebrate ‘World Bee Day’ . Peter does some research whilst the rest of the Team each have a job outside; Lorraine and Diana on painting, Steve and Mark construct a new Bee-friendly garden area, Alan and Michael make a barrel to grow new bee-attracting plants. World Bee Day is a chance to celebrate bees, their crucial role as pollinators and their importance to our eco-system. Let’s use this day to protect the bees and, in turn, protect our planet.

It was lovely weather in Trusthorpe for the annual Rogation Service on Sunday. This is the village’s oldest, traditional service, which follows the January blessing of the Plough, seeds and milk-churn. Today’s event started in Church with a well-known hymn, the blessing of 3 new kneelers, designed by Peter Evans and embroidered by wife Lorraine. The journey outdoors took everyone across the Church bridge, down through the Meadow’s Estate with a hymn, prayer and look at fields, crops, animals and a well-earned rest at Main Bridge Gardens with another hymn and prayer for water. Finally, a bit of fun playing Alan’s new tombola and taking away one of his most challenging quizzes.
Many thanks to Joy, Ronnie, Chris, Steve, Gayle, Alan and Diana for contributing to the readings, Dawn, Michael and Lawrence for sorting out the tea and cakes at the Annexe, the ladies who brought the dogs (they seemed thoroughly enjoyed the walk and the singing) but especially to Brian and Teresa who support us every year and came all the way from Derby.

Happy Birthday to Joy Crighton this week. Thanks for all the good wishes sent to Peter Evans last week, whose new electric wheelchair is giving him back some independence. Well done to all children and adults who entered the ‘mini garden’ competition. Thanks for letting us use the displays at our Church Open Day (displays will be delivered back to you in the next week). Our next mini-garden competition will be at the St. Peter’s Day Dog Show on Sunday 28th June and the theme will be ‘Alice in Wonderland’.

Great to see Peter Evans back at the Annexe after a winter of illness. As usual he, Lorraine and Alan were keen to be the first to paint the new birdhouses and resin birds for the August Bank Holiday competition (see poster).
