Trusthorpe turned out in style to support the ‘Tour of Britain Cycling Race’ last Thursday. The Bikers came through Trusthorpe, passing St. Peter’s Church and Annexe where Alan made tea and biscuits, Steve and Diana from the Trusthorpe Clangers’ Bell Ringing Team rang for 40 minutes as Bikers passed through the village at remarkable speed. Main Bridge Community Garden was decorated by Pete and Marian, who held well-wishing plaques and other villagers cheered the Bikers on. Some superb action photos taken by Suzy.

Great weather and loads of dogs and owners entered the 14 different competitions at Sunday’s Dog Show. After 11 years of Dog Shows in the St. Peter’s Paddock, Margaret Codling, our Judge, has retired but will still be showing her own dogs and taking a keen interest in next year’s Dog events, including the annual Pet Blessing to be held on 11th October and the Christmas Dog Walk.

Outside stalls and games included Steve and Helen’s BBQ; Bob and Dawn’s Tea and cakes; Alan’s Tombola; Lawrence’s Card game; Marianne’s car game; Roy’s dancing pigs; Hazel’s fruit cakes and apple pies, with Di’s ‘Hook-a-Duck’ and Mr. Pratley’s colourful flower sale. A raffle was held with proceeds going to ‘Sniffer Dogs’ and ‘Cancer’.

Thanks to the Mayor who judged the ‘Best Dog in Show’ (Keith Twiss from Chapel St. Leonards), ‘Best dressed Dog and owner’ (Melanie and Gladys from Trusthorpe) and ‘Best Dressed Human in colourful theme’ (Suzanne from Saltfleetby).

Also judged by the Mayor was the best ‘mini-garden’ portraying ‘Dogs with character’ and/or ‘bright coloured theme’. Winner was ‘Snoopy’ (Vicky from North Hykeham). Second was ‘Paw Patrol’ and Third was ‘Picnic’ (Claire from Lincoln). Best designed plant pot went to Pam from Horncastle with her ‘Colourful Hedgehog’.

Marilyn, from Luffman Photography, judged the painted bird-house competitions for adults and children. Winning adult was Kate and her neighbour (Trusthorpe) with a ‘Blue and White Beach-hut’. Second was Shirley (Mablethorpe) with ‘Home Tweet Home’. Third was Wayne (Ockbrook) with ‘Bright Coloured House’. Children’s Winner was Evan (Crowborough). Second Gwendoline (Binbrook). Joint third were Theodora and Rhys.

The highlight of the day was the Calendar Competition where we had so many entries, they were split into two separate themed calendars ‘In the Garden’ and ‘Fun in the Garden’. Winners were Shelley (Sutton-on-Sea) who won £50 with ‘Ink-Cap Fungi’; James (Keyworth), winning £25 with ‘Family of Red-neck Geese’ and Angela (Long Sutton) winning £15 with ‘Beautiful Rose’. Winning ‘Fun in the Garden’ went to Evan for ‘Ducklings among Bluebells’; ‘Snowman’ by Luke and Rhys and ‘Tortoise’ by Ebony. Calendars are on sale in the Annexe, Seacroft Shop & Restaurant and Greenfields shop, all in Trusthorpe. Prices are £6 for one calendar or £10 for 2. All funds going to St. Peter’s Church maintenance and repairs.

Two successful events at St. Peter’s. A trip to Russells International Circus for the PCC regulars. Thanks to friends from Leicester and Derbyshire who attended our morning Church service. In the afternoon, we celebrated World Honey-Bee Day and
Lavender Day where we planted different types of Lavender plants around the Churchyard and Paddock, picked some of the ripe greengages and did a Treasure Hunt ‘Looking for Lavender’. Next Sunday is our Bank Holiday Dog Show with 12 different classes, BBQ and Games. A new quiz will be held, when walking down the Woodland Walk, with hidden clues along the way.

The annual Garden Fete, which has been a village fund-raiser for hundreds of years, was well attended.

Our second ‘Creation Praise’ event will be held on Sunday 23rd August at 3pm. On Thursday, we are celebrating the ‘Honey-Bee’ and its importance to pollenating. Come along and enjoy learning about Lavender, planting a shrub and taking a walk through our new ‘Woodland Way’, tea and cake to follow.

Congratulations to all those who entered our Church quiz (the ‘D’ quiz) and especially to Alan for all his hard work composing it. Winners with top scores of 70 points were Chris Chantler, Bath; Leslie Vickers, Sutton-on-Sea and Mrs G. Barker, North Hykeham. Look out for our new quiz (Hats & Heads) in all the usual places.

On Thursday afternoon we entertained 9 ‘Visiting Bell Ringers’ from Yorkshire. The St. Peter’s bells sounded loud and clear and haven’t been rung so well for quite some time. We also had a great evening at our annual Garden Fete last Thursday. Many thanks to Seacroft, Kirkstead. Waldo’s and Greenfields for raffle prizes and to everyone, adults and children, who participated in the games. A special thanks to helpers, Dawn, Bob, Marianne, Roy, Peter, Lorraine, Mark, Kate and her sister, Lawrence, Marilyn, Wayne, Mr. Pratley, Alan, Steve & Diana.

Thanks also to those who got up early on Sunday morning to join us for our Creation Praise service – the singing (and the bell ringing) was great for an early morning start!

Thanks to Archdeacon Eleanor for spending an afternoon at St. Peter’s Church, Trusthorpe to present us with our Eco-Church Silver award. After meeting some of the Team, Alan, Diana, Lawrence and Michael, she had a tour around the Church paddock, Churchyard grounds and the Church itself. A hot afternoon for everyone but one which was thoroughly enjoyed.
