Back in November 2025 the B2G contained a Winter Purslane seedling to take home to grow for a winter salad crop. The Winter Purslane is now beginning to come into leaf and the tiny spade like leaves can start to be harvested. Simply cut the little leaf heads off, add to other winter salad leaves, wash and create a dish of mixed salad leaves.
Botanical Notes:
πŸ₯— 🌱Winter Purslane is a hardy annual herb. Today it is lauded for its properties - one of the few vegetable sources of Omega-3 essential fatty acids, a source of Vitamin A,B and C, magnesium, calcium and potassium minerals. 🌱πŸ₯—

There are 10 Boxes 2 Grow available to pick up at the end of the session provided by Eco Church. Inspired by the theme of Rainbows 🌈 the B2G will give you 2 colours of the Rainbow - Red and Green with the baby Strawberry plantπŸ“
Included in the B2G is one baby Strawberry plant in an upcycled yogurt pot. Plus, one Birdfeed seedball for our families to take home, place outside and participate in the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch 2026.
Botanical Notes:
Although the Strawberry plant is still an infant, it is hardy and can be placed outside. The yogurt pot is for transportation purposes and as the Strawberry plant is hardy it can be planted outside on a mild January day where there is no frost. Otherwise, it can remain in its pot on a windowsill until it outgrows it and can then be repotted and placed outside.
The Strawberry flowers need to be pollinated by pollinators like bees 🐝 and then water πŸ’¦ regularly to enjoy the flowers grow into delicious fruit πŸ“

This Advent there are 10 Christmas Box 2 Grow available to pick up in the Church Hall provided by Eco Church. It includes 1 Holly Tree cutting to take home and grow on, plus 1 Birdfeed seedball.
Holly trees are an integral part of Christmas festivities, with wreaths made with Holly, adorning tabletop candle decorations and the decking of the halls.
The Holly represents in Christian tradition the Crown of Thorns, the red berries, the blood of Christ and the evergreen leaves represent eternal life.
Care Notes:
The Holly tree cutting can be placed on a windowsill to grow on, or can be potted up or placed outside as it is hardy. If it is indoors keep well watered and do not allow to dry out because it is the roots of the cutting that are developing and growing, rather than the top of the plant.

Environmental benefits of growing Holly Trees:
They provide winter food and shelter for birds and insects, and a cosy hibernation place for hedgehogs.
The tiny flowers provide vital nectar and pollen for bees and the Holly Blue Butterfly πŸ¦‹
The evergreen Holly tree photosynthesises all year round providing an effective carbon dioxide storage unit for up to 300 years, as that is how long they can live to.
Holly trees are male and female, and only the female trees produce the red berries.
The leaves of Holly are prickly where they can be eaten by hungry animals and as the tree grows out of the munch zone the leaves become smoother.
So this B2G is festive and an environmental wonder!
Eco Church wishes all our growers a very Merry Christmas and a Blooming New Year
