The White Church is a special building and a local landmark. It is located close to Granny's Bay, Fairhaven Lake and the centre of Ansdell village. The Church was formed as the district of Fairhaven started to grow in the early 1900's, and the church members at Lytham Congregational Church saw the potential for setting up a new Church in the area. On 4th May 1904, Fairhaven Congregational Church w
as opened in what is now the Church Hall. Fund raising continued and gradually work progressed on the main Church building, known locally as the 'White Church' because of the white faience (glazed earthenware) blocks used in its construction. The Church is Byzantine in style and attracts many visitors who come to admire the building and its beautiful windows. The White Church remained Congregational in churchmanship, that is self-governing, until 1972 when it became one of the congregations of the United Reformed Church, a union of Congregational and Presbyterian churches. Fairhaven United Reformed Church belongs to the West Lancashire Partnership of the North Western Synod of the United Reformed Church. The West Lancashire Partnership is a grouping of eleven URC Churches co-operating together in a Missional Partnership. This is about enabling and supporting one another in local mission and ministry. The Church is open to visitors Thursday and Sunday afternoons; you can also visit the Church during the Thursday morning Coffee morning that starts at 10.30 am (the bacon barms are highly recommended) and, of course, you're also very welcome to join us for Sunday morning worship starting at 10.45 am.
