Bishop Mead is extremely grateful for the messages of support and concern he has received, and the comfort of so many prayers offered for his father, Laurence, who suffered a heart attack on Sunday. We are pleased to know that Mr Mead is doing well.

Last Sunday (7th June) Laurence Mead (83), one of our Church Wardens (who is also our Diocesan Bishop’s father) suffered a heart attack in Church after the morning Mass. Thankfully, our Associate Director of Music, Matthew Schellhorn, who was our organist at the Mass, quickly put his First Aid training and the defibrillator on the exterior of the Church to good use.

The paramedics, ambulances, police and even the air ambulance responded in record time, but it is unanimously agreed by all those who responded and the subsequent medical professionals that it was Mr Schellhorn’s quick response starting CPR and the use of the defibrillator which saved Laurence’s life. Praise God and thank you to everyone who responded and worked so hard to help. Thank you too for the many messages of support and concern we have received.

Laurence is slowly recovering in hospital and the prognosis is very encouraging.

The defibrillator was placed by Ospringe Parish Council, and St Augustine’s Church has been happy to host it, never imaging that one of our own might need it first!

Finally, after a great deal of hard work, not to mention considerable patience, on the part of Mr David Yates, a great friend to our Diocese, we have an updated ACC map.

It is, I hope, as accurate as it can be, although is the nature of such things that as soon as one presses the “publish” button, something changes or develops! This can be frustrating - but it is often a positive sign, especially when the changes are caused by growth and new life in our Church.

Thanks are due too to others who have given assistance in checking details, including Archbishop Haverland.

The Parish of St Deiniol and St Asaph, Pembrokeshire were delighted to receive a visit from the Adams family from St Paul's Anglican Catholic Church in Michigan. Fr Miles and Fr Gordon were delighted to receive them at Upton Castle and have good fellowship with our brothers and sisters from "across the Pond".

Congratulations to our bishop, The Right Revd Dr Damien Mead and ACC member Dr Roy Hipkiss, co-founders of Credo Care Fostering Ltd, the specialist fostering agency for disabled children in Lydd, Kent, who have just celebrated the agency’s 25th anniversary. As part of their planning for the next quarter century they have founded a new charity, the Credo Care Foundation, which was launched in the presence of HRH The Duchess of Gloucester on Friday 22nd May 2026, during her visit to mark Credo Care Fostering’s Silver Jubilee, and who graciously unveiled a plaque commemorating both events. May God continue to bless the agency and it’s important work. His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Kent, the Lady Colgrain, welcomed HRH when she visited Lydd, and has reported on the visit on Social Media.

The recipient of the 2026 Bishop’s Award for exemplary lay service to the Church, which was presented at the ###IV Annual Synod of the Diocese, was Nikki Thompson, the Diocesan Secretary (who is also Secretary to the Cathedral Parish).

Before the Pontifical High Mass, celebrated by The Right Revd Damien Mead, assisted by The Very Revd Canon Jonathan Munn (deacon) and The Very Revd Andrew Scurr (subdeacon), Bishop Damien renewed the dedication of the Diocese to Our Lady of Walsingham. This revisited the original dedication enacted by the first bishop ordinary, The Right Revd Leslie Hamlett, in 1992.
After the sermon, preached by The Revd Gordon Tall, the bishop received, into the full communion of the ACC, Mr Theo Wilmott.
It was lovely to have a small robed choir sing for us - a local ecumenical gesture which was greatly appreciated.
