Thank you to all who contributed to our Pentecost celebrations and to those who took part, it was a day of fitting celebrations for our parish feast day - from everyone who wore red and/or cultural clothing to all those who took part in the shared lunch!

Fr. Kevin's homily for Pentecost

The Collect for today really challenges us.

Do we pray for and celebrate the flame of your Holy Spirit, your sevenfold gift or life-giving Spirit?

In our daily life do we allow the life-giving Spirit to lend fire to our words, strength to our witness and send us forth into the nations, who are all on our doorstep, to proclaim with boldness?

As a parish this is a charter for our way ahead, to be alive!

Fr. Kevin's homily for the 7th Sunday of Easter (Year A)

Jesus has been taken up into heaven in the Ascension that we celebrated on Thursday. What were the people he had left behind to do?

The apostles gathered with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus and his brothers and sisters. All these devoted themselves to prayer with one accord.

Prayer was the answer to his absence, to his not being with them. Is prayer our way of being consciously in the presence of God here and now?

Prayer – where is it in your life? How do you pray? How much time a day do you give? How often? Ask yourself – do you give God what he deserves in your prayer life? What will you resolve to do to strengthen your prayer life on your own and with others?

Fr. Kevin's homily for the 6th Sunday of Easter (Year A)

We are unique as a parish dedicated to the Holy Ghost (Spirit). We have the responsibility of living up to our name to the full. What does that mean for us in practice?

Let us keep the Novena to the Holy Spirit that begins on Friday, following the Ascension when we celebrate Christ leaving the earth and promising to send the Holy Spirit.

Let us be committed in prayer for the parish, for one another, for the Church. Let us be serious about how we take holy water on the way into church – to remember the gift of the Holy Spirit in our baptism, and Confirmation, and ordination, and marriage, and let us ask ourselves just how well we are using his gifts in our daily lives.

Fr. Kevin's homily for the 5th Sunday of Easter (Year A)

Jesus says he is the way, truth, and life - WTL. How is that true for us in our life on earth? How will it get us to heaven?

Peter explains this by calling us 'living stones'. We are the building blocks of the church, all of us with our own role, gift and contribution to make.

He goes on: 'You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession.' How much there is in those words for us to check against our way of life as Christians? Do we make the most of those privileges? WTL - use those categories to examine how you live as a Catholic Christian.

Fr. Kevin's homily for the 4th Sunday of Easter (Year A)

"I have come that they may have life and have it abundantly."

The image of the shepherd is the person who cares for his sheep and keeps them alive. They follow the shepherd because they listen to his voice - that is their lifeline, keeping them safe and bringing them to the best of pastures.

We hear Jesus’ voice and are fed with his Body and Blood every time we celebrate Mass. But do we put it into practice and live it out to the full? Do we listen to Jesus’ call to serve him in the church, in our homes, where we work, in the local community? Because this is God’s world and we are all called by name to do all we can to serve him and others. Which door is God opening for us to give us the fullest of lives?

Fr. Kevin's homily for the 3rd Sunday of Easter (Year A)

The first Christians were faithful to their belief, especially to the breaking of the bread. That is what convinced the two disciples in today’s Gospel that the stranger who explained everything to them was indeed Jesus. Then they go and spread the news.

2000 years on, we do the same as they, and Christians before us, did. We hear his Word and consume the Broken Bread who is Jesus himself. For us it is the path of life, as the psalm says.

Where would we be without this? Do we value this gift enough? Do we take its fruits into our daily lives?

Fr. Kevin's homily for the 2nd Sunday of Easter (Year A)

A few simple words from the scriptures today challenge us to live as people who really believe in the resurrection. Jesus’ greeting – "Peace be with you" – is so much needed in our world today and in our daily lives.

Peter tells is that through God’s mercy we are born again to a living hope through the resurrection. Again the world needs hope, but we all know people around us who long for hope in their ordinary lives.

Thomas proclaims his belief in words we must echo constantly – "My Lord and my God" – and which cannot be bettered.

To be true to this, we must follow those first Christians who were devoted to the teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread and prayers. It is the way we must live as a parish, as people of Resurrection faith.

Fr. Kevin's homily for Easter Sunday

We have completed the Lenten journey to the mountain who is Christ. We took part in his Last Supper and stood by the cross.

Now, like the women who went first grieving to the tomb, we have to go to our brothers and sisters with the news of Resurrection joy and peace.
