The long and short of the matter in this life for the Christian is summarised in the following.
Hebrews 3:18-19Living Bible (TLB)
18 And to whom was God speaking when he swore with an oath that they could never go into the land he had promised his people? He was speaking to all those who disobeyed him. 19 And why couldn’t they go in? Because they didn’t trust him.
Notice that they received the promise (only those with a relationship with Him can be given the promise) but they didn't get it because they didn't demonstrate a consciousness that he was able to make it good. Realise that trust is demonstrated in times of adversity.
You can say you trust your spouse, but it is demonstrated when someone brings unsavoury tales about the same spouse. You demonstrate trust when you leave your money in the care of a seemingly poor accountant or sales boy.
There has to be the potential for calamity if the one you place your trust in fails or betrays your trust for you to have really demonstrated your trust.
If you trust my ability to drive at night, you get into my car at night and promptly fall asleep despite all the potential hazards. You demonstrate trust in a pilot when you get on his plane and fall asleep.
God expects you to trust Him to fulfil all he tells you. Without this, it is impossible to please Him (Hebrews 11:6).
The four friends and the bedridden cripple demonstrated trust (faith) by defying all odds to destroy a roof and lower the cripple down to Jesus. Their thinking would have been, "If he falls down and breaks his neck, Jesus would still heal him."
Cast yourself on Him and trust His ability to bring His word to pass irrespective of the perceived opposition.
Remember, "Herein is my Father glorified" (how?) "That ye bear much (not a little) fruit". The fruit here is prayer fruit.
Peter demonstrated trust by stepping out of the boat even though the storm was raging.
"TRUST" is another name for "FAITH".
No trust, no entry into the promise!
Selah!
