Heavenly Father,
Right now, we need clarity.
There are choices in front of us,
And we don’t want to choose what’s easy.
We want to choose what’s right.
We don’t want to rush ahead of You.
We don’t want to lean on our own understanding.
We want to follow where You lead.
So give us discernment.
Help us see past the surface—
Past what looks impressive, convenient, or comfortable—
And help us see what’s wise,
What’s honoring to You,
And what aligns with Your will.
If we’re holding onto something we should let go of, show us.
If we’re afraid to step into something You’re calling us to, give
us courage.
If we’re distracted by noise, clear it away.
Help us ask the better question:
“What is the wise thing to do?”
And give us the humility to listen—
Even if the answer challenges us,
Even if it’s not what we expected.
Lead us, Lord.
Not just in big decisions,
But in everyday moments that shape who we’re becoming.
Because more than anything,
We want to walk with You.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

You are our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble.
Therefore, we should not fear—
But so often, we do.
We fear losing what we love.
We fear failure, rejection, sickness, uncertainty.
We fear the future, because we forget who holds it.
We confess that our fears often say more about our hearts
than our circumstances.
They reveal what we treasure most, and how little we trust
You.
But today, we come back to the truth, that You are our God,
That You have not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love,
and a sound mind.
Lord Jesus, you faced the cross, fully aware of the cost,
And still You did not turn away.
Because of Your courage, we are not condemned.
Because of Your resurrection, we are not abandoned.
So help us to rest in You.
Let Your perfect love cast out our fear.
Not by pretending danger doesn’t exist,
But by remembering that You are greater than anything we
face.
When our fears rise,
Help us look to You—not inward, not around, but upward.
Help us speak truth to our anxious hearts.
Help us move forward in faith,
Even when our knees tremble.
We are weak. But You are strong.
We are uncertain. But You are not.
We are afraid. But You are with us.
So we trust You now, and we trust You with tomorrow.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Easter Resurrection Sunday

Acts 10:34-43

As we read through Acts 10, we see the power of the resurrected Christ, also the mercy of God working through broken humanity:

Verse 43 culminates with Peter proclaiming:

“To Him (Jesus) all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him, will receive remission of sins.”

In context, that means regardless of race.

This was the culmination of a journey that Peter, a proud Jewish man was taken on. Peter who had been at Jesus’ side for most of His earthly ministry was now being sent to the Gentiles (non-Jews) with the message of salvation.

As members of a multicultural church, we need to appreciate what is going on when individuals of different racial backgrounds come together as God’s church. God does a work in the hearts of the two main characters, Peter, a Jew and the Roman Centurion, Cornelius.

Peter and Cornelius, each receive a separate message from God. Cornelius is told to send for Simon Peter; who is currently lodging at the home of Simon the Tanner (works with dead animal skins).

Peter sees a vision of unclean animals descending on a blanket. He is told to “kill and eat.” He initially refuses the unclean beasts until God checks Peter, telling Him that He has made these animals clean. This was God showing Peter that the Gentile people would now also receive salvation.

Cornelius on the other hand was a Gentile Christian who was told in a vision to meet with a Jewish Christian leader. What was Cornelius thinking? Maybe He was wondering, “Will Peter accept me because my culture is different to his.” Or let’s broaden that thought process and ask what does it look and feel like to be accepted in a multicultural church?

Does acceptance mean some are more equal than others, or does it mean “behave like us, or there’s the door!” Is there an unwritten code which is culture specific (don’t ask

me, I’m the new guy?). Note that in Galatians chapter 2, early Christians still struggled with these issues, so I’m glad the church has had 2000 years to sort themselves out.

I am humbled and overjoyed that the God we serve draws different peoples together and challenges us on the prejudices we all have. Just like He did with the Apostle Peter.

Before Jesus rose from the dead, He commanded a group of Jews to wait in an upper room to receive power from on high. That power enabled them to speak different languages; symbolic of what the New Testament church would be. But God still had to challenge a church pioneer about loving, respecting, and coming together with those who looked and behaved differently to Him.

I believe it is erroneous to say, “God does not see colour,” because He made them. But God does not separate us due to colour. Instead, He calls us to Himself to separate from sin, by the power of the resurrected Christ.

He Is Risen!

Happy Easter.

Rev Raymond Barnett.
