Fellowship Baptist Church We're not perfect people, just following a Perfect Saviour - Jesus Christ. Dieticians tell us that we need our five a day (fruit and veg) to be healthy.

Fellowship Baptist Church was founded in 1982 by our current pastor, Stan Boelman and his wife Paula. Originally named Bethel Baptist Church, the name was changed, after much discussion, to Fellowship Baptist Church. Fellowship is both a noun and a verb; a fellowship is a group of people who share things in common, when people fellowship together they share these things in a positive and helpful way. As a Christian fellowship, we'd like to think we're the sixth … we offer something for the soul. AND GOOD NEWS — FBC is now meeting at Ambleside Community Centre, 19A Ambleside Close, Luton, LU3 2SF. Our meeting starts at 11am. It’s a smaller building than our previous venue but it’s a lovely place to worship.

“God‘s gone away.”

Have any of us ever felt like that? There’s this dark moment in our lives when our prayers seem to bounce off the ceiling. We fast and we pray. We wait for answers. Nothing seems to happen and things just go on.

In the 18th century, Charles Wesley took a different view when he wrote these words …

He left His Father’s throne above,
so free, so infinite His grace;
emptied Himself of all but love,
and bled for Adam’s helpless race:
’Tis mercy all, immense and free;
for, O my God, it found out me.

On Sunday, Stan continues his reflections from the hymn, And Can It Be. There’s so much great theology in this hymn but also a lot of comfort. Where would we be apart from God staging an intervention in human history? This was a rescue package with a face. Amen.

Sorry, folks, no sermon tomorrow because FBC will be having its annual harvest service with lots going on.

The meeting will include a special speaker, a shared lunch after and delivery of a food contribution to Keech Hospice.

Who doesn’t love a good mystery? Here in Britain, we’ve had some great ones like Midsomer Murders. The program centres on a set of very picturesque villages such as Midsomer Worthy and others. And for a lovely village setting there’s a murder in every episode. With a crime rate like that who’d want to live there?

The Bible talks about mysteries and so did Charles Wesley when he wrote the second verse of his hymn, And Can It Be:

‘Tis mystery all! Th'Immortal dies!
Who can explore His strange design?
In vain the firstborn seraph tries
to sound the depths of love divine!
'Tis mercy all! let earth adore,
let angel minds inquire no more.

The mystery in this verse isn’t a whodunnit so much as ‘I-can’t-believe-he-did-it.’ It’s not a spooky thing so much as wonderful thing; “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”

On Sunday Stan will unpack the text and point us to the Amazing Grace of the Incarnation.

God wants me? What are the odds?

Picture this. After years of searching, you’ve just had an encounter with God. No lights or sound effects but you’re now convinced of a personal relationship with Jesus.

What do you do next?
No, no, no, you don’t ring the Daily Mail! 🙄

On May 21, 1738, Charles Wesley had just such an encounter. He wrote in his journal that the Spirit of God “chased away the darkness of my unbelief.” It is said that within hours, he wrote these words …

“And can it be that I should gain an interest in the Saviour’s blood?”

On Sunday, Stan will begin a series on this famous hymn. Each verse contains much to encourage and to reflect. And by the way, there’s actually six verses, not the usual four or five found in most hymnals.

On Sunday, the subject is verse one:

And can it be that I should gain
an int'rest in the Savior's blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain?
For me, who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! how can it be
that Thou, my God,
should die for me?

Refrain:
Amazing love! how can it be
that Thou, my God, should die for me!
