Stopsley Baptist Church was birthed in 1848 when a small number of people met in a house in the Stopsley village, establishing a small chapel in 1869. In the 150 years since this beginning, both Stopsley and SBC have changed significantly. The village has now been absorbed into Luton and growth at SBC led to us holding our Sunday services in Stopsley High School. The current Centre was completed i
n 1994 and is a testament to the vision and commitment of the generations that have served here. SBC now has a large congregation of people of all ages and backgrounds meeting together each week with a vision to ‘grow individuals to become God’s people and release them to transform their world’. In total we reach and directly serve a thousand people in the community through our varied ministries. Stopsley Baptist Church is a living and growing community of people centred on faith in Christ and seeking to be a blessing to our local community and through
partnerships in our town and around the world. We want all ages and all peoples to
feel at home with us and to have opportunity to contribute to our life. Our life aspires to the realisation of our mission: to be an extended family, growing and being transformed in Jesus Christ and sharing the good news wherever we go. The church has many smaller extended family communities that meet regularly called beacons, each with their own vision, aims and rhythm. These aim to be places of discipleship, care, encouragement, and springboards for outreach. Our regular Sunday morning service is an informal but passionate gathering and
usually includes lively times of sung worship, story-telling, Bible teaching and prayer. We want people to come to participate not to spectate and encourage as many as possible to take the opportunity to serve in making these times the best they can be for everyone. Our service begins at 10.30am but is preceded by a time of prayer from 10am to which all are invited and ends with the opportunity to share coffee and share news. Families Ministry
Children, Youth and families are really important in the life of our church and our

Greenhouse Community Hub
The GreenHouse Community Hub is based in the old chapel building, a short walk
down St Thomas’ Road from Stopsley Baptist church. Currently home to Greenhouse Mentoring, Singing Café and Tent Project, the Community Hub is an exciting project to develop an updated facility within Stopsley village, to serve and support the local community, together with strong links to the established Community Garden. Stopsley Community Garden
Once a parcel of unused wasteland next to the old chapel building, this has been
transformed into a beautifully kept and restful garden greenspace, accessible and
welcoming for the local community. For more details you can find Stopsley Community Garden on facebook. Seniors
Stopsley Baptist Church has a thriving ministry among our Seniors, led by a dedicated team and looking to provide an active and supportive community centred on the gospel of Christ and open to all. The Seniors meet at our main building for a monthly Sunday Worship hour on the first Sunday of the month. We are also connected to a local outreach group, the Tent Project and a Singing Café.
