Hello Beautiful people. No morning guided prayer this week, but in the evening of Wednesday 30th December at 6.30pm I will be live focusing on prayers to enable us to begin to recognise all that we have lost this year, to make space to reflect and to seek Jesus as a new year approaches. You are welcome to join me for an extended guided prayer 15 to 20 minutes and you will need something to write on and paper/old wrapping paper you are prepared to discard. I'm really looking forward to praying with you guys. Love and hugs. Grace (Vicar for St Luke's) x

Black History Month
Sara Forbes Bonetta, (born Omoba Aina; 1843 – 15 August 1880), was an Egbado princess of the Yoruba people in West Africa who was orphaned during a war with the nearby Kingdom of Dahomey and later became the slave of King Gezo of Dahomey. Some may say she was liberated - others would say she was recaptured by Captain Frederick E. Forbes of the British Royal Navy who took her to England and presented her to Queen Victoria and she became a goddaughter to the Queen. She was married to Captain James Pinson Labulo Davies, a wealthy Victorian Lagos philanthropist.

He came to public attention in 1970 as one of the "Mangrove Nine", who marched to the police station in Notting Hill, London, to protest against police raids of the Mangrove restaurant, and again in 1981 when he organised a 20,000-strong "Black People's Day of Action" in protest at the handling of the investigation into the New Cross Fire, in which 13 black teenagers died.

Hurrah it's October & Black History month
"Black History Month is not simply about remembering the past and black contribution to the present. It is about reminding various communities in Britain that people of African descent are making daily contributions. They are indeed continuously building this kingdom in various ways, thus shaping our future as a nation." Dr Olivette Otele, Reader in History at Bath Spa University

To mark this month each week we will be post a painting (by a local artist) of black men and women who have contributed to our world.

God bless.
