St Peter's Church, Coreley

St Peter's Church, Coreley St Peter's Church is a grade II listed building in Coreley, Shropshire. It sits in an immaculate churchyard with wonderful views in all directions.

Services are held at St Peter's Church on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month with services at The Knowle on the 2nd sunday. The early English gothic arch and the lancet windows of the tower suggest that St Peter's Church, Coreley was built around 1200 though there might have been ab earlier building of which all trace has been lost. The earliest written reference to the Church was made in 1261 w

hen a robber sought sanctuary there. By 1759 the nave and chancel were in a state of collapse and they were rebuilt in brick on the original stone foundations shortly afterwards. The estimated cost of this work was £1005
A little over 100 years ago the windows of the nave and chancel were remodelled, the chancel arch rebuilt, the roof timbers replaced, and the vestry and other buildings on the north side were added. ST PETER'S CHURCH, CORELEY·TUESDAY, 5 MARCH 2019·

As when we started the page, in February 2017, the lovely Judy Prosser wanted someone to take over writing the copy to go into the Church magazine for Coreley.
Little did I know, when I said yes, what it would entail!
