Today, Rachel Tucker our Senior Anti Social Behaviour Officer met with Suffolk Constabulary’s East Area Commander, Chris Hinitt, to discuss anti-social behaviour and how East Suffolk Council can continue to work closely with partners through the approach.
They visited Sam’s CafΓ©, formerly run by Access Community Trust, which is due to reopen in mid-June as a Community Interest Company. It will provide an important community and wellbeing space, led by Tracey McFee, Hub Manager.
They also met with some of our team colleagues based at the DWP offices on Clapham Road, Lowestoft, including Sue Medley senior community officer from our Community Help Hub team, to explain the support available. The team provides a supported access model, helping residents build confidence, reduce isolation, and access services such as housing, employment, and financial support.
There are already strong partnerships in place with local police and the town centre's Mike Soanes. Recent activity in town centre has focused on addressing youth-related , with a number of fixed penalty notices that have been issued under the updated PSPO.
A really positive day highlighting the strength of and our shared commitment to safer, stronger communities.

Just a reminder that the volleyball nets on Lowestoft beach are up and available for everyone to use throughout the spring and summer season! πŸβ˜€οΈ

It’s been fantastic to see how busy the courts have been today and across the Bank Holiday weekend, with so many people getting active and enjoying the beach.

The courts are completely FREE to use. Simply download the BoxUp app, unlock the equipment box through the app, grab a ball, and play!

This is exactly what community sport should be about. Making activity accessible for everyone and ensuring finance is never a barrier to getting active, socialising, and having fun in our town.

P.s can I just say a well done to the team at East Suffolk Council for getting the fountains up and running again. Seeing them full during half term reminds me of how popular they were when I was a kid! Wonderful to see kids playing there.

Come visit us in Lowestoft today to talk about HAF and Healthy Start 😊

We are entering the last two weeks of the food support survey so don't miss your chance to shape food support policy and funding in East Suffolk!

We have also been able to secure funding for a Β£20 voucher for food/essentials for each organisation that completes the survey.

The research project is open to organisations working with those experiencing food poverty (defined as where someone can't access an adequate quality or sufficient quantity of food by standard means)?

This includes top up/pop up shops, pantries, foodbanks, community fridges, little larders or similar where food is provided to take home to prepare/eat or supermarket vouchers are issued. Unfortunately it isn't open to individuals or organisations providing shared meals at a venue such as lunch clubs. You must be in the East Suffolk District Council area.

We are working with postgraduate researchers at University of Essex to understand the food support we have in the district, food and funding sources, issues faced by services, and the wrap around support offered to residents. This research will influence policy, grant funding and potentially the development of new programmes.

The initial stage involves a survey, open to all food support organisations. If you prefer answers can be anonymised before Essex University share with us. From that a number of organisations will be invited to take part in a deep dive exercise with site visits and interviews. Over the next 6 months we will also be holding three food support forums during which you can feedback directly to researchers, policy makers and grant funders.

We hope that this work will also lead into strong, local food networks in areas where they aren't currently operating.
