A glimpse of The Salvation Army response to fires this summer. A couple of faces you will recognise from Lowestoft. Some of the images used were taken by our very own photographer Jess of JL Photography .

Pleased to read that the major incident at Dunwich has been stood down and as a result the Salvation Army Emergency Response Unit has also been stood down, an answer to prayers.
Please continue to pray for our firefighters as they remain on site and please don't venture onto Dunwich Heath.

The Major Incident at Dunwich Heath has been stood down – but please continue to stay away from the area.

The incident itself is not over. Firefighters will remain at the scene, continuing to damp down the affected area, monitor for hotspots and respond to any further fire activity that emerges.

Jon Lacey, Chief Fire Officer, said: “The nature of this landscape means fire can remain hidden underground for some considerable time, which is why we continue to ask people to stay away from the heath itself and allow our crews to work safely.”

While access to the heath remains restricted, Dunwich village and surrounding communities are open for business.

Visitors are encouraged to support shops, pubs, cafés, accommodation providers and other businesses across the area, while continuing to respect road closures, traffic management measures and access restrictions around the fire ground.

Dunwich Road, from Westleton to Dunwich, will reopen today at 5pm.

Some traffic controls will remain in place to support the continuing emergency response and manage access safely.

A week after the Dunwich Heath wildfire began, we want to take a moment to reflect on the scale of the response so far and thank everyone who has played a part tackling this ongoing incident.

Firefighters from every Suffolk fire station, supported by 18 fire and rescue services across the country, and dozens of partner organisations have come together to tackle one of the largest incidents Suffolk has faced.

Once again, we want to thank everyone who has supported the response so far.

These staggering numbers only tell part of the story, they don't fully capture the dedication, professionalism and teamwork shown by everyone involved in the response.

Although progress has been made, this remains a live scene. Please do not visit the area. Hidden hotspots, unstable ground and ongoing firefighting activity continue to present risks.
