Today we remember St Petroc, the 'captain of Cornish saints'. He seems to have been the son of a Welsh chieftain who, on arrival in Cornwall, founded a monastery at Lanwethinoc (later Petroc's Stow and now Padstow), and another at Bodmin. He was reputed to have tamed a wolf - his companion in the picture.
Today he is remembered in the many churches dedicated in his name, including as well as .petrocs and St Petrock's (Exeter) Ltd

How lovely to see James and John on this week’s list and to know that the rest of the diocese, as well as our Benefice, are praying for them.

✨ Trinity Sunday — United Benefice Service ✨
This Sunday we gather as one Benefice to celebrate the mystery and beauty of the Holy Trinity — the God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit, a communion of love at the heart of all things.

We meet at Boconnoc Church at 10.30am for a shared service of worship, prayer, and thanksgiving. Trinity Sunday invites us to marvel, not to solve; to stand in the light of God’s life and let it draw us into deeper faith and fellowship.

Everyone from across our parishes — and all visitors — is warmly welcome.

✨ United Benefice Service — Trinity Sunday
Sunday 31st May • 10.30am • Boconnoc Church

This Trinity Sunday, our whole Benefice comes together for a single service of worship in the beautiful setting of Boconnoc Church at 10.30am.

Trinity Sunday invites us into the mystery of God’s life — Father, Son and Holy Spirit — a relationship of love at the heart of all creation. It’s a day to gather as one community, to pray, to give thanks, and to share in the peace and joy of early summer.

Everyone is warmly welcome.

🌿 Oak Apple Day & Ember Day 🌿
Today is Oak Apple Day, a traditional English celebration marking the restoration of the monarchy in 1660. People once wore oak leaves as a sign of loyalty and thanksgiving — a reminder of resilience, renewal, and the deep roots of our shared history.

It is also an Ember Day, one of the Church’s quiet, prayerful pauses in the year. Ember Days invite us to pray for the Church’s ministry: for those discerning vocation, for all who serve, and for the guidance of the Holy Spirit in our common life.

As these two threads meet — history and prayer, roots and renewal — we give thanks for the faithfulness of past generations and ask God to bless the ministries that sustain our parish today.

🌿 **Ordinary Time Begins Again** 🌿
After the great sweep of Lent, Easter, Ascension and Pentecost, the Church now returns to **Ordinary Time** — the long green season where we pay attention to God at work in the everyday.

In church you’ll notice the change too: the hangings return to **green**, after the white and gold of Eastertide. A quieter colour, but one that speaks of steady growth, hope, and the slow work of God in us.

Ordinary Time isn’t “plain” or “less important”. It’s the season that reminds us that most of the Christian life is lived in the week‑by‑week rhythm of prayer, kindness, community, and small acts of faithfulness. Growth often happens quietly.

As we enter this season once more, we pray for open eyes to notice God in the ordinary, and open hearts to follow Christ in the life of our parish.

🔥 Pentecost — Whit Sunday 🔥
This Sunday we celebrate Pentecost, the day the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples like wind and flame — filling them with courage, hope, and new beginnings.

Pentecost is often called the birthday of the Church: a reminder that God still breathes life into ordinary people, sending us out in love to bless our communities.

Come, Holy Spirit.

Today the Church remembers Helena of Constantinople
A woman of deep curiosity and courageous faith, Helena is traditionally credited with encouraging her son—Emperor Constantine—to embrace Christianity. Her influence helped open the way for the faith to be practised openly across the Roman Empire.

Later in life she became one of the earliest Christian pilgrims, travelling to the Holy Land to honour the places connected with Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. Her journeys helped shape the Christian practice of pilgrimage that continues to this day.

As we remember Helena, we give thanks for all who quietly shape the faith of others, and for those whose searching hearts lead them closer to Christ.
