Pathfinder Church Northstowe

Pathfinder Church Northstowe A welcoming community for all ages, however you are feeling. Chat and chew over Bible passages—or simply listen and reflect.

Dance in worship, create in reflection, or find quiet to pause, uncovering parts of your faith journey you didn’t know you needed. Those of us gathering as part of this new community in Northstowe come from all Christian traditions as well as those new to Christianity: together we are pilgrims on a journey, asking questions and exploring the connections we find between everyday life and our spirit

uality and faith. At the heart of all this is a recognition that we are seeking to follow The Pathfinder, Jesus Christ. What unites us is much stronger than our denominational backgrounds: it is a rooted, growing, and transforming faith based on an encounter with the ancient God who still changes lives today. Our vision is to be people who are praying, exploring and sharing

🌟 This Sunday at Pathfinder Church 🌟

Join us from 9.20am for coffee.

This week we're exploring the story of the friends who lowered a man through the roof to Jesus. We'll be thinking about belonging, removing barriers, and how we can help one another get closer to God.

🧱 Build a house with a removable roof 🛏️ Work together to carry the "paralysed man" 🕯️ Spend time in the Chapel Space with a quieter reflection 🍞 We'll also be sharing Communion together

🎵 Songs: • Way Maker • O Love That Wilt Not Let Me Go • By Faith

As always, there'll be plenty of coffee, conversation, and refreshments after the service, at around 11am.

Everyone is welcome. 😊

🪁🌬️ What a joyful Pentecost morning together at Pathfinder Church Northstowe 🌬️🪁

We shared increasingly complicated clapping games, bubbles, kite flying made possible by the thermals rising off the hot playground, ice lollies in the sunshine, and prayer ribbons dancing.

As we swapped ribbons and carried one another’s prayers home, we were reminded that Pentecost is all about connection: people drawn together across difference by the Holy Spirit at work among us.

Thank you to everyone who came, played, prayed, chatted, ran, reflected, helped, and joined in ❤️

This Sunday we’ll be exploring the Pentecost story together through creativity, conversation, kites, bubbles, prayer, and time outdoors.

We’ll begin indoors with coffee, short videos, and multisensory activities for all ages — before heading out into the field for kite flying, bubble blowing, and Prayers on the Wind.

✨ Bring a kite if you have one
☀️ Bring suncream and dress for the weather
🫧 We’ll have spare kites and bubbles too

📍 The Pathfinder Primary School Hall
☕ Coffee from 9.20am
🌈 Everyone welcome — whether you’re exploring faith, visiting for the first time, or already part of the Pathfinder community.

One of yesterday’s AGM prayer stations was shaped around the miraculous catch of fish in Luke 5.

Jesus tells tired fishermen to put down their nets one more time… and suddenly the boats are overflowing.

But as we reflected together, we realised that abundance is not always loud, dramatic, or easy to measure.

So alongside the magnetic fishing game, people were invited to write their own “wow, God!” moments onto paper fish and add them into the nets.

Some were big community moments. Some were deeply personal. Some were tiny things that opened unexpected doors.

Church Club.
Praying friends.
Community connections.
Being welcomed.
Someone noticing a need.
A conversation.
A beginning.

It became a beautiful reminder that God’s abundance is often found in ordinary faithfulness, shared partnership, and people quietly offering what they can.

“Partners in the other boat” suddenly felt like a very important phrase for Northstowe. 🎣

Loved seeing these start to fill in with colour and story!

Loved seeing these start to fill in with colour and story!

Yesterday, before the formal AGM business began, we spent time worshipping together around the question:

What is God doing here?

Together we traced a thread from Abram and Sarai, called to leave home and become “blessed to be a blessing”, through Isaiah’s vision to “stretch wide the tent”, to Jesus calling very ordinary people beside the lake.

Then we stopped and looked around the room.

At the children. The volunteers. The neighbours. The trustees. The café conversations. The school partnerships. The quiet acts of kindness. The people who cook, listen, organise, welcome, pray, build, notice, and keep showing up.

As part of that, we created this intergenerational colouring sheet, full of little glimpses of Northstowe life: schools, prayer spaces, campfires, cafés, music, gardens, maps, boats, and ordinary people sharing life together. And right in the middle, a blank speech bubble for people to add their own stories of where they have noticed God at work.

Because that really was the heart of the afternoon.

Not “look what we achieved”.

But:
✨ Where have we seen abundance?
✨ Where have we been surprised?
✨ What might God already be doing here?
✨ And how do we join in?

I’m very grateful for this fragile, hopeful, still-unfolding community we get to be part of together. 💙

Just a little reminder that today's AGM won’t just be “lots of talking”! 😊
Alongside the formal bits, there will be lots of interactive things for children and adults to explore together, including:
⛺ A tent where you can add prayers, stories, hopes, and dreams for Northstowe onto strips
🐟 An “overflowing nets” station with magnetic fishing, where we’ll reflect on moments of abundance, kindness, partnership, and surprise from the past year
🧍 Decorating paper people and celebrating the ordinary people who help our church and town flourish
🗺️ A giant map of Northstowe where you can place prayer stones and pray for different parts of the town, schools, parks, homes, and future spaces
🕯️ Quiet reflective prayer space with candles, stones, and sand timers to pray for wisdom and the future of the Network
There’ll also be storytelling, worship, conversation, and a bring-and-share buffet afterwards 🍽️
We’re hoping it feels much more like a shared community gathering than a traditional meeting 💛
🕞 3.30pm at Pathfinder School
🍽️ Buffet from around 4.30pm
You’d be very welcome to come and join in ✨

Earlier this week, Revd Beth had the privilege of conducting a funeral at Cambridge Crematorium. In the opening words of the service, she said:

“Whether we who are gathered here today have a Christian faith, a faith in this life but not in anything further, or are among those who are unsure about any of this, we nevertheless share in common the real sense of loss at the death of a loved one.”

At funerals, we remember before God, give thanks for a life, commend those we love into God’s care, and stand alongside one another in grief. They are one of the ways the local church seeks to serve the whole community with dignity, compassion, and hope.

She also spent some time chatting with one of the pallbearers about The Chapel by the Lake, and how we can ensure it is designed well for future funeral and memorial services here in Northstowe, including practical features such as a specialist lift. The peaceful lakeside view from the first-floor chapel will, we hope, be a place of comfort and reflection for families as they mark life’s most significant moments.

You do not need to be a churchgoer to ask for the local vicar to officiate a funeral. If you would like to talk about leaving plans for your own funeral, or need help arranging a service for someone you love, Revd Beth would be very glad to speak with you.
