There are a lot of boxes in Northstowe.

Moving boxes. Delivery boxes. And, apparently, boxes full of shoes.

This one is coming to Pathfinder Church this morning as we explore stories about leaving, returning, fairness and welcome — with lanterns, pig biscuits, and a quiet guided meditation drawing on William Herzog’s Parables as Subversive Speech.

A place to move, make, listen, wonder or be still — whatever your age or stage of life.

The trouble with salt… 🔥🍿
Confession: the first batch of Harvest campfire popcorn caught fire and had to be quenched. We cleaned up, adjusted the technique, tried again — and it was brilliant.
Even better with salt.
After a week that has left plenty of us feeling rattled, I’ve been thinking about a different sort of saltiness too: coffee, baking, shared childcare, practical help, kindness, courage — and so many hugs.
Small things, perhaps. But worked through a community, they change the flavour of the whole thing.

🔥🌾 Harvest Campfire Communion — this Sunday at Pathfinder

One of our Northstowe Harvest traditions is back: gathering around the fire to bake bread, make popcorn, give thanks, and wonder together.

This year we’ll be exploring some of Jesus’ challenging words about what it really means to follow — not with a long sermon, but with things to do, make and talk about together: bread dough, popcorn, a simple lantern activity, and space to ask good questions.

We’ll finish by sharing Communion around the fire. Everyone is welcome — whether church is familiar, unfamiliar, or you’re just curious.

Our new Worship Gang have an exciting first outing this Saturday! They’ll be representing Pathfinder School as they help open the Diocese of Ely’s Growing Younger conference, welcoming people from churches and schools across the diocese and leading part of the opening worship. We’re really looking forward to seeing them take part.

This Sunday, Pathfinder Church meets in the school as normal — everyone is very welcome to join us.

A little musical preview for tomorrow at Pathfinder Church 🎶

As we continue our journey through Luke, this week we’re asking:
Ready for what?

Jesus talks about keeping our lamps burning and being ready for God’s Kingdom. Paul writes to the Thessalonians about living as children of light, supporting one another and building each other up.

And later in our worship we’ll come back to the ancient words of the Nicene Creed:
“He will come again in glory… and his kingdom will have no end.”

This is one of the songs we’ll be singing as we gather everything we’ve explored back into worship: Ancient of Days, here performed by New W**e Worship.

☀️ First Monday Coffee — today from 9am! ☕

The sun is out, so after school drop-off you’ll find us in the deckchairs out the front of The Pathfinder, by the main entrance.
Come and say hello if that first Reception drop-off has left you feeling a bit wobbly, if you fancy meeting another parent or carer, or simply if you’d like a coffee and a chat.

All school families are welcome — but we’re especially thinking of those navigating that very first Reception morning.

Stay for five minutes or a little longer. No agenda, just coffee, deckchairs and friendly faces.

What helps you when you feel worried or afraid? 💛

Preparations are well underway for Pathfinder Church tomorrow — including some very enthusiastic young bakers making treats to share!

As we begin a new autumn season together, we’ll be exploring a big, busy chapter of Luke: worries and riches, bigger barns and tiny sparrows, what we hold onto, what we share, and Jesus’ promise that “the kingdom of God is near.”

There’ll be our first Autumn Lantern, things to make and explore, space to wonder and pray, plenty for all ages — and Holy Communion as we gather around the table together.

This Sunday at Pathfinder we’re gathering for Communion — and we’re picking up a thread that has followed us all summer and all the way to Greenbelt.

Through our August Summer Breakfasts we kept hearing stories about people being sent out without everything they needed, learning to receive as well as give, and discovering that God was already at work beyond the places they expected.

Then Greenbelt Communion gave us Luke 10 again — and sent thousands of us home carrying literal pieces of a jigsaw.

So this Sunday we’ll gather around the table, share bread and w**e, and return to that simple refrain:
The kingdom of God is near.

Whether you came to every Summer Breakfast, just one, or none at all, you’re very welcome. You don’t need to have followed the whole story to have a place in it.

🌿⛺ Pathfinder Church is not here this Sunday.

We’ve run away to a field near Kettering.

Specifically: Greenbelt — where art, activism, faith, doubt, politics, poetry, music, comedy and several thousand slightly damp humans collide for a long weekend.

So there’s no gathered Pathfinder Church in Northstowe this Sunday.

But if you’re at home wondering whether to come: day-trip. Seriously. Sunday is a great way into Greenbelt — turn up for one thing, accidentally stay for six, eat something excellent from a van, hear an idea that annoys you, sing something loudly, and go home slightly rearranged.

Among the more recognisably “church” bits on Sunday:

🍞🍷 Festival Communion — the big Sunday-morning gathering
🕯️ Quiet(er) Communion — bread, w**e and prayer with rather fewer thousand people
🍺🎶 B**r & Hymns — Sunday lunchtime

And that’s before you get to the music, comedy, talks, poetry, theatre, activism, circus, craft and all the bits that refuse to sit politely in one category.

Signal on site is terrible, so the group works largely through timestamps, hope and occasional telecommunications miracles. 📵

No church in school this Sunday. Quite a lot of church, though.
