👋 Welcome to the Long Buckby Food Larder!
We are so happy to have you as part of our community. We meet most weeks to help stretch budgets, reduce food waste, and enjoy a bit of company. Whether you're a regular or a first-timer, here is a guide to what we’re all about and how it works.
📍 Where: St Lawrence Church, Long Buckby
⏰ When: Tuesdays, 2:00 PM – 2:45 PM
🌟 What We’re All About
The Larder isn't just a shop; it’s a mission! We’re here to:
• Boost Healthy Eating: We want to make sure everyone has access to fresh fruit and veg every single week.
• Stretch Your Budget: By offering food well below market rates, we help you make your household budget go much further during this cost-of-living crisis.
• Save the Planet: Much of our stock is surplus or "short shelf-life" food that would otherwise go to landfill. We even collect surplus from local shops to ensure good food reaches our community instead of going to waste!
• Combat Loneliness: Every Larder has a social space or café. For many of us, the chance to have a cuppa and a chat is just as important as the shopping.
• Offer a Helping Hand: We host visitors from Community Law (debt/benefits advice), the Council, and even the RSPCA. We can also help you access Household Support Fund grants that aren't available elsewhere.
🛒 How It Works
No need to book ahead, pop in during a session and one of our friendly team can guide you through the simple sign-up form, membership is just £10 for the year.
Once you're a member, you can choose the donation amount that works best for you:
• £5: You’ll receive 10 points to spend.
• £10: You’ll receive 22 points to spend.
• The Freebies: On top of your points, everyone gets access to our "free" items like bread, fresh fruit, and veggies to help top up your bag.
💭 A few things to keep in mind:
• Once a Week: To keep things fair, it’s one visit per household, per week (at any Food For Thought Daventry location).
• We’re a "Top-Up": We aren’t a full village shop, so think of us as a supplement to your weekly groceries.
• Points can wiggle: Supply costs change, so point values might vary. If you can get your favorite biscuits cheaper elsewhere, feel free! The overall value of your bag will still far outstrip what you’d spend at a supermarket.
🤝 Get Involved
• Struggling? If you’re having a hard time with the donation, please talk to us. We have Hardship Funds and can accept referrals from schools or doctors to help you out.
• Volunteer with us! Our Larder is run by amazing volunteers. It’s a great way to gain a sense of purpose, meet new friends, and give back. If you’re interested in helping set up or serve, please get in touch!
We’re a friendly bunch and we’re always here for a chat if you have questions. See you on Tuesday, and don’t forget your bags! 🛍️
