Important considerations for Lent

If you want to live Lent well this year, here are some common mistakes to avoid:

1. Expecting perfection from yourself (it’s okay if it doesn’t all go to plan)
2. Prioritising penance over charity - your penance shouldn’t negatively impact other people.
3. Congratulating yourself on doing Lent well
4. Not contemplating Jesus’ Passion (through Stations of the Cross or some other private devotion)
5. Focusing solely on fasting - don’t forget about prayer and almsgiving!
6. Not setting clear Lenten resolutions - be specific about how you will live Lent.
7. Looking gloomy during Lent to prove that you’re taking Lent seriously
8. Seeing Lent as a reminder of all your mistakes
9. Avoiding true repentance by focusing on doing your penance but not the reason behind it.
10. Comparing your Lent to other people’s and feeling discouraged
11. Criticising or internally judging people for their Lenten habits - you have no idea of the context of their spiritual journey.

Happy Solemnity of Our Lady of Lourdes to all our parishioners! Join us at 6.30pm this evening for the Rosary at the Grotto, and at 7pm for Evening Prayer, when Fr. James Devine will lead us in a reflection on the message of Lourdes, with adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and benediction.

Join us at 6pm, this evening, as we gather to celebrate Evening Prayer as part of our Novena to Our Lady of Lourdes. Visiting priests will be available to hear Confessions and to celebrate the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick.

Join us at 6pm, this evening, as we gather to celebrate Evening Prayer as part of our Novena to Our Lady of Lourdes. Visiting priests will be available to hear Confessions and to celebrate the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick.

Fr. Declan will visit the housebound in the parishes of Culmore and Steelstown in the coming days.

Congratulations to children of Steelstown Primary School and Nursery Unit who were confirmed this evening!

May they be filled with wisdom and ever enjoy the consolations of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
